Northport-East Northport Schools Conclude Summer Learning

Northport-East Northport Union Free School District School District implemented a successful Summer Learning Program (SLP) following the remote spring schedule resulting from COVID-19.

The program took place remotely and was open to grades K-8 and provided continued learning in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics. Each grade offered unique programming and scheduling dependent on students’ developmental stage. To address the social-emotional needs of students, teachers hosted morning meetings and were responsive to students questions throughout the day.

Kindergarten teachers hosted a virtual “School Spirit Week” to keep students engaged with daily themes and eighth grade teachers utilized activities such as interactive read aloud sessions of the novel The Library Card.

Summer Learning Program Principal Carol Taylor shared, “I’m proud that the program was a success. It has been exciting to be part of this original program. It succeeded with credit due to the wealth of teacher creativity and energy, because of the families’ commitment to their children’s education, and because of the willingness of the district to launch a new program which resulted with students flourishing in their summer educations.”
