Northport Fire Chief Awarded Silver Medal of Valor

Northport Volunteer Fire Department Chief Joseph Pansini received the Silver Medal of Valor from Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services on Sunday.

Pansini was recognized for for “his heroic life saving rescue on June 7, 2013 when torrential rain storms almost caused the drowning of two people on Main Street,” according to the fire department’s Facebook page.

Pansini had risked his life to save a husband and wife who were trapped underneath a vehicle after a sudden storm surge and flood on Main Street in Northport Village. Pansini went underwater to pull out the two victims and get them to land.”
