Northport HS Junior Awarded Rensselaer Medal
The medal awards him a $30,000 per year scholarship to attend the technological institution in New York state.

NORTHPORT, NY — Todd Petry, a junior at Northport High School, was awarded the Rensselaer Medal, the Northport-East Northport School District announced.
The medal awards Petry a $30,000 per year scholarship to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a technological institution in Troy, New York. If Petry applies and is accepted to the institute, he will receive a scholarship to one of the most prestigious schools in the state.
The scholarship is awarded each year to one student in any high school who shows considerable skills in mathematics and science. Teachers and administrators nominate the student they believe has the academic skillset to meet the school’s rigorous requirements.

Petry has not yet decided on his steps once he graduates from Northport High School. However, he plans to pursue either engineering or computer science. He has taken a multitude of advanced mathematics and technology courses.
Principal Rob Dennis, Chairperson of Science and Technology David Storch and Chairperson of Mathematics Robin Rann surprised Todd with the news on May 5. Rensselaer is the oldest technological institution in North America.
