Northport HS Students Give Back To The Community For Holidays

NORTHPORT, NY — As the holidays approach, Northport High School seniors have once again committed their time to helping those less fortunate. From their annual toy drive, to writing letters to servicemen and women overseas, Northport-East Northport students are volunteering their time for the greater good, according to a news release from the district.

The district’s annual toy drive was a success, drawing hundreds of donations for Miss Minnie’s Kids in Jamaica. The drive was led by high school social studies teacher Brittany Klein and supported by many members of the school community. Klein also led the district’s Feed 200 initiative which provided full Thanksgiving meals to 200 families in the Northport-East Northport community.

In the business department at Northport High School, DECA advisor and teacher Christopher Goodwin is leading the charge to support the club’s fundraising and community initiatives. Alongside DECA President Meghan Smith, they are currently working to collect holiday cards and donations for care packages to be shared with troops overseas. Virtual Enterprise business students are also participating in sending care packages to service members overseas in collaboration with Military Connections as part of their unit on Corporate Social Responsibility.

"Seeing our students give back during this especially difficult holiday season makes me incredibly proud," said Northport High School Principal Daniel Danbusky. "With so much uncertainty in the world at the moment, these initiatives are more important than ever, and I am thrilled with the continued philanthropic spirit and passion our students demonstrate when it comes to giving back to the community."
