Northport Man Pleads Guilty to Role in Carjacking That Critically Injured Cop

Nicholas Franzone was the accomplice of the man who mowed down two cops, critically injuring one, in September 2014.

The accomplice of the Northport carjacker who was recently sentenced to prison for critically injuring a Suffolk County cop with a stolen vehicle pleaded guilty to his charges on Tuesday, authorities said.

Nicholas Franzone, 23, of Northport, pleaded guilty to robbery, criminal possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle, petty larceny and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle during a court conference in Central Islip.

Franzone will be sentenced to three and one-half years in state prison on Wednesday, Sept. 9 by State Supreme Court Justice Fernando Camacho.

Convicted carjacker Chad Morizsan was the driver of the 2014 Ford Explorer that struck officer Nicholas Guerrero, who had initiated a traffic stop with fellow Second Precinct Crime Section officer Heriberto Lugo in Huntington in September 2014, police said.

Morizsan and Franzone, who was a passenger in the Explorer, were arrested at the Central Islip Target store hours later when they attempted to buy a television with a stolen credit card, police said.
