Northport PD Blotter: 3 Bicyclists Shouted Obscenities At Parkgoers

ALSO: A truck drove onto an elementary school's ball field, and three violations were reported in the water at Northport Harbor, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Aug. 7 through Aug. 13.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A stop sign was removed from its post on Main Street, police noticed on Aug. 8.
  • Haze was reported in the Posey School of Dance on Main Street on Aug. 8.
  • Someone reported a petty larceny at Village Dock on Aug. 8.
  • Someone overdosed on Wayne Court on Aug. 8. Northport police helped Suffolk police, and the scene was brought under control.
  • A deer was seen in a Steers Avenue front yard on Aug. 8.
  • A dismantled street sign for Highland and Rutledge avenues was found on the ground on James Street on Aug. 9.
  • Police tried to stop a vehicle on Reservoir Avenue on Aug. 9, but it fled.
  • A man reported that his boat was missing on Aug. 9. Police spoke with another man, who said the boat belongs to him and that he removed it from its previous location. Neither man was able to provide proof of ownership so police advised them to handle the matter civilly on whose boat it is, which they agreed to do.
  • Two bikes were left in Village Park on Aug. 9.
  • A 2009 Dodge Ram was driving on the ball field at Ocean Avenue Elementary School. There appeared to be no damage to the school ball field. The driver was told he was not allowed to drive his vehicle on school property and was issued multiple traffic summonses. School security was notified.
  • A man fainted at the Northport Power Plant on Aug. 10. Northport Rescue paramedics came to help him.
  • A paddle-boarder was without a life jacket in Northport Harbor on Aug. 11. Police warned and violated him for a law violation and gave him a Loaner-for-Life jacket.
  • An officer saw a boat operator violate a law for driving at an imprudent speed and causing a wake on Aug. 11. Police warned and admonished her and told her to slow down.

  • Stolen property was reported by a Seaview Avenue home owner on Aug. 11.
  • A man fainted at The Whales Tale on Aug. 11. Northport Rescue brought him to Huntington Hospital.
  • A dead deer was found on Steers Avenue on Aug. 11. Police removed and discarded it.
  • A knife found in the middle of Seaview Terrace was disposed of by police on Aug. 11.
  • Police were patrolling a musical event at Northport Park when multiple people said three people on bikes were causing a disturbance in the parking lot on Aug. 11. Officers saw the trio shouting obscenities and rude comments to various drivers and pedestrians. Police asked them to behave properly but then saw them act poorly again. The officers asked them to leave for the evening and try to act more appropriately on future visits to the park.
  • A man fell asleep on the sidewalk of Main Street around 7:20 a.m. Aug. 12. The man said he fell asleep while waiting for a ride.
  • A group of youths was creating a disturbance at Steers Beach on Aug. 12. Police asked them to leave the beach, which they did.
