Northport PD Blotter: Drunk Man Drove Into Opposite Traffic
ALSO: A woman says her neighbor has problems with her trying to bring homeless people to stay with her, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent arrests and incidents from the Northport Village area, from Nov. 11 through Nov. 17.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Jonathan Schamberger, 34, of Huntington, was driving a Nissan eastbound on Fort
Salonga Road 2:31 a.m. Nov. 11 when an officer saw him drive out of his lane across the double-yellow line into opposite traffic, police said. After pulling him over, the officer noted Schamberger's breath reeked of alcohol, police said. Schamberger was arrested and consented to a breath test, police said. He was charged with DWI, DWI: BAC reading and unsafe lane change. He was released on bail. - Elmin Gonzalez, 26, of Bay Shore, was speeding on Fort Salonga Road, and was arrested and charged with second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and speeding: posted zone on Nov. 16, police said.
Incidents
- A deer got stuck in the fence at Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk on Main Street. Northport Fire Department tried to free the deer, though the deer had to be euthanized because of injuries sustained from the fence. The deer was removed. The incident happened Nov. 12.
- A police responded to a home on Scudder Avenue for a neighbor dispute. A woman called police to say her neighbor has a problem with her as she tries to bring homeless people to stay with her. Police told her that it's probably not a good idea to do that. The officer has had prior contact with her neighbor, and told him to stay away from her, and that if he has any problems, call the police instead. The incident happened Nov. 13.
- Police responded to Duffy Court for a reported scam call. The woman told police an unknown person called her home phone three to four times a day for the past month until she picked up the phone. The caller said he was a grandson of the woman, though the woman doesn't have a grandson by that name, so she hung up. Police made a report for informational purposes on Nov. 13.
- Police responded to the CVS Pharmacy on Fort Salonga Road due to a man (customer) threatening employees. After police interviewed everyone involved, they determined the backlash was due to an earlier phone call in which the man allegedly made threats over the phone. The man said he was talking to himself while on hold and the pharmacist misinterpreted what he said. The man was told not to go back to that CVS in the future, and all involved were satisfied with the outcome. The incident happened Nov. 13.
- A deer got stuck in a fence on Nautilus Avenue, though was freed by the time police arrived. The incident happened Nov. 14.
- Northport Police responded to the Baskin Robbins on Fort Salonga Road to help Suffolk County Police Department with a man who was harassing female employees. The incident happened Nov. 14.
- A woman living on Salt Aire Place told police she asked her neighbors to move their flatbed truck out of sight, and that the neighbors responded with yelling and screaming profanities at her. The officer didn't see any violations, but spoke to the neighbors and told them to call police if they have any issues with the woman who called in the future. The incident happened Nov. 15.
- Police responded to Fort Salonga Road for a reported road rage incident around 1:17 p.m. Saturday. The caller said while he was turning from Laurel Avenue onto eastbound Fort Salonga Road, an unknown black SUV started driving very aggressively behind him and then passed him very closely. He said he then entered the parking lot, with the SUV also turning into the lot before quickly driving away. Police couldn't find the SUV driver, but made a report for informational purposes.
