Northport PD Blotter: Drunken Man Involved In Road Rage W/ Woman

The woman says the man followed her from Commack, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from March 23 through March 29.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Marvin Mejicanos Carranza, 31, Islip, was involved in a road rage incident 12:30 a.m. March 28 on Woodbine Avenue, police said. A woman said a car followed her from Commack to the Northport street, police said. The officer saw Mejicanos Carranza driving the car on the wrong side of the road after leaving the road rage scene, police said. The officer stopped Mejicanos Carranza on Woodbine Avenue to interview him, and observed bloodshot glassy eyes, slurred
    speech, and breath that reeked of alcohol, police said. The man did poorly on several field sobriety tests and agreed to a breath test at police headquarters, police said. Mejicanos Carranza was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI, DWI, unsafe lane change and operate motor vehicle by unlicensed driver. He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance, and was told to return to Northport Village Court on May 18.

Incidents

  • A transformer caught fire on Mar-Kan Drive on March 23. Northport Fire Department contained the fire until PSEG arrived.
  • A wallet lost on Main Street was turned into police headquarters, and the owner retrieved it on March 24.
  • Police responded to a Fifth Avenue home after a third-party caller told police people were yelling. A man said he wanted his girlfriend's daughter removed from his home that night, and that she is no longer welcome to stay there. He told police he gave his girlfriend's daughter $4,500 and a car three months ago in an attempt to get her to leave, but she has not moved out. The man was told he'd need to have her legally evicted and that he can't just throw her out. The man had been told this several times in the past. Both parties agreed to stay away from each other for the night. The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. March 24.
  • Police officers, at 3:40 a.m. March 25, saw two males walking around Main Street and peering into store windows. They were stopped and asked what they were doing at such an early hour, to which they said "looking to see what stores were still open." They didn't appear to try breaking into any stores, but were possibly casing the area, police said. The males agreed to leave the area.
  • A Woodbine Avenue resident's flag was pulled down by an unknown person on March 25.
  • Someone alerted police to three youths playing football on Laurel Avenue Ball Field. When police arrived, there were numerous people enjoying time on the field, including three people throwing a football to each other. All of them appeared to be 20 feet apart from one another, so police left. The incident happened March 25.
  • A man living on Hillside Place was tested for the new coronavirus at the request of his ex-wife, as he was "very sick." The results hadn't came in yet. The test was done March 25.
  • The police were called on youths playing football on Laurel Avenue Ball Field again March 26. An officer saw numerous people enjoying time on the field, but none playing football. Everyone was practicing social distancing.
  • The owner of Britannia Yachting Center was told by police that they had received complaints that he was running a business deemed "non-essential" during New York State's coronavirus "stay-at-home" order. The owner said he was advised by Northport Village Mayor Damon McMullen and Trustee Ian Milligan that the Britannia Yachting Center is deemed an essential business and can remain open for business. An application was left for the owner to apply to run the yachting center as an essential business. The incident happened March 26.
  • Police responded to Cow Harbor Park for a report of youths playing basketball, but they were gone by the time police arrived. The incident happened March 27.
  • Someone found a phone in Parking Lot #2 on Woodbine Avenue and turned it into police, who were able to reach the phone's owner. This happened March 27.
  • Loud music was being blasted at a Whispering Fields Drive home, and the resident agreed to lower the music. The incident happened March 28.
  • A Village employee found a license plate in the road on Main Street on March 28. The owner picked up the plate at Police Headquarters on March 29.
  • Police responded to Burt Avenue for a report of a woman outside yelling. She was upset because she accidentally ran over her in-laws' dog. The incident happened March 29.
