Northport PD Blotter: Man Denied Alcohol Refuses To Leave Store

ALSO: A woman accuses a man she lives with of stealing her medicine, & people drive around following someone, say it was a prank, cops say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent incidents from the Northport Village area, from Dec. 30 through Jan. 5.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Police responded to Northport Husco gas station to settle a dispute between a worker and customer. The officer explained to the customer how credit card holds with gas stations work, satisfying them. The incident happened Dec. 30.
  • The Northport Fire Department extinguished a chimney fire at a Waterside Avenue home on Dec. 30.
  • A driver said her tire blew out when she hit a pothole on Fort Salonga Road. The officer helped install the spare tire and notified the NYS Department of Transportation on Dec. 31.
  • Police responded to a Fifth Avenue home to settle a domestic dispute. The woman said a man stole medication from her closet. Police spoke to the man, who denied taking her medicine. When the man and woman were together, the woman changed her story and said she didn't know who took her medication. The officer suggested the two stay away from each other for the night, which they agreed to do. The incident happened on New Years Eve.
  • A man refused to leave Northport Liquors & Wines. Police spoke to the clerk, who said he and the man had an argument after he denied the man alcohol. The man was told to leave the store, and he did. The incident happened on New Years Eve.
  • There was a loud New Years party at a home on Burt Avenue. An officer asked the resident to keep the noise down at 12:20 a.m. on Jan. 1, which he agreed to.
  • A hypodermic syringe was found in the street on Valley Avenue. It was placed in the bio-hazard bin to be destroyed on Jan. 1.
  • An old knife used for landscaping was found in the street on Maple Avenue. The knife was destroyed by police on Jan. 2.
  • A dog was left outside, barking for hours, from a home on Avenue B. The dog's owner agreed with police to not leave the dog outside to bark for an extended period. The incident happened Jan. 2.
  • Three hypodermic needles were found floating in the sewer on Valley Avenue and disposed of on Jan. 3.
  • Two people were jumping off Village Dock and into the harbor. Northport officers stopped the people, who admitted they were jumping into the dock but said they didn't know it was prohibited. They were warned and admonished not to do it anymore by police. The incident happened Jan. 4.
  • A person told police that an unknown car was following them at around 11 p.m. Jan. 5. Police found the car and interviewed the driver and occupants, who said they were "just driving around." While questioning the driver, he admitted they were following the car and meant no harm. They were warned and admonished about their behavior and the possible consequences. The complainant didn't wish to pursue the matter any further.
