Northport PD Blotter: Man Followed Women At Bars; Dead Deer

ALSO: A woman turned over a lost watch she found; Snapchat scam; and a woman says her stolen items were being sold on Facebook, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Aug. 14 through Aug. 20.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Someone on Aug. 14 reported a dog inside a Dodge Ram pickup that looked like it was suffering from the heat. Police searched but the car had left before they got there.
  • A vehicle hit a deer on Main Street on Aug. 14. The driver said the deer jumped into the roadway, causing him to hit the deer. The deer then slid under another vehicle.
  • A motor vehicle collision was reported on Woodbine Avenue on Aug. 15. A Northport Fire Department member told police he saw a Toyota back into a Chevrolet, which was parked and empty in a metered space on the west side of Woodbine Avenue. Minor scratches were visible on the Chevrolet that the owner said were not there before. The Toyota driver said he bumped into the Chevrolet while trying to park. Both people requested that no accident report be completed. The driver was issued several summonses by police.
  • A boat operator was speeding and causing a wake in Northport Harbor on Aug. 15. The boater was warned and admonished by police.
  • A bus was stuck on the hill at Logan Hill Road on Aug. 15. The bus company had a second vehicle assisting the bus by the time police arrived. The officer controlled traffic while the bus company freed the bus from the road.
  • A dead deer was found on Waterside Avenue on Aug. 15. The Northport Highway Department was called to remove it.
  • A 2009 GMC Yukon driver was issued an appearance ticket for doing donuts in the Scudder Beach parking lot on Aug. 16, police said.
  • Police were called to Burt Avenue for a report of a suspicious vehicle on Aug. 16. It turned out the man was working construction on a house across the street and eating lunch in his car.
  • A woman lost her bag, which contained her medication and makeup, at the John W. Engeman Theater on Aug. 16.
  • A woman said she heard a loud banging noise coming from her Main Street balcony around 12:30 a.m. Aug. 17. When she opened the door, she saw a few males running from the back of her apartment. Police couldn't find the group. The woman's property was not damaged.
  • A woman's bag was stolen while she was at Mill Pond Restaurant in Centerport on July 25, she told Northport police on Aug. 17. The woman said she noticed some of her belongings being sold on Facebook Marketplace. She was told to contact Suffolk police to file a report of stolen property because the theft didn't happen in Northport.
  • An Internet scam was reported on Aug. 17. A teenager told police that they sent a Snapchat post to a spam account and the other user was requesting money in return. Police told the teen to block the user and make sure all social media accounts are protected in the future.
  • A transformer fire was reported on Gilbert Street on Aug. 18. A branch hit the transformer and dislodged it from the pole. The branch that caused the transformer to get dislodged from from the pole was hanging on the wires, police said. Cherry Street was blocked off from Route 25A to Gilbert Street until the area was deemed safe. PSEG was was notified about the downed transformer, and the highway department was notified about the branch hanging on the wires.
  • A vehicle became disabled in water near Waterside Avenue on Aug. 18. The driver was able to get the car out of the water before police arrived. The driver said the car wasn't running correctly and there was front bumper damage. The vehicle was removed from the area without further damage.
  • Rocks causing a hazard on Maple Avenue on Aug. 18 were cleared by police.
  • A summons was issued to the driver of a vehicle blocking a Main Street driveway on Aug. 18.
  • Police were called to Napper Tandy's for a report of a suspicious man possibly stalking women at the bar on Aug. 19, police said. The bouncer told police the man was sitting at the bar not ordering anything and following women towards the bathroom. The man was asked to leave and not come back which he agreed to do, police said. A similar incident involving the same man happened the night before at a different location downtown, police said. Police told the man to stop following women.
  • A summons was issued on Aug. 19 to the driver of a vehicle who was parked in a spot at Trinity Episcopal Church that was not allowed, and the driver did not have a permit.
  • A man fainted at Giunta's Meat Farm on Aug. 20. Northport Rescue took him to Huntington Hospital.
  • A woman was panhandling outside a pizzeria on Aug. 20. The owner of the pizzeria said his customers were approached by a woman in the parking lot who was begging for money. Some customers were scared, the owner told police. Police told the woman to leave the area immediately, which she did.
  • A woman found a Roven Dino wristwatch in village park and turned it over to police on Aug. 20.
  • An intoxicated female was brought to Huntington Hospital on Aug. 20.
