Northport PD Blotter: Multiple Phone Scams Reported
ALSO, a woman received menacing texts from an unknown number which stated they hope she gets her head smashed with a brick, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent arrests and incidents from the Northport Village area, from Nov. 18 through Nov. 24.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Christopher Jarczynski, 57, of New York, bail jumped, police said. He was arrested and charged with fail to appear and third-degree bail jumping on Nov. 18.
- Amanda Calderon, 26, of Central Islip, drove on Fort Salonga Road with a suspended license, police said. She was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle: three or more suspensions on Nov. 20.
Incidents
- While a man was walking his dog on Scudder Place, a German Shepard from a Vail Street home ran over and tried to attack his dog, he told police. Neither dog was injured, though the man asked police to talk to the German Shepard's owner. Police went to Vail Street and spoke to the dog's owner about the complaint and keeping his dog on the property while not on a leash. The incident happened Nov. 18.
- A woman visited police headquarters after she received menacing texts. She said on Nov. 19, the person texted her "I hope you get what's coming to you," and "I hope someone force feeds you a whole brick and then smashes you in the head with another brick." Police told her that while the comments were inappropriate, they did not rise to the level of aggravated harassment. The woman was told that the incident would be documented, and to contact police if she kept receiving texts. The incident happened Nov. 20.
- A person living on Dogwood Road reported an attempted fraud attempt. Early Nov. 20, an unknown person called claiming to be the person's grandson and that he was in a car accident. Another person then called, claiming to be a public defender, and told the person the "grandson" was going to jail unless they come up with bail money in cash, to be picked up in person by a courier. The complainant became skeptical, asked the caller a question, who then hung up.
- A person living on Oak Street reported an attempted fraud attempt. Early Nov. 21, an unknown person called claiming to be the person's grandson and that he was in a car accident. Another person then called, claiming to be a public defender, and told the person the "grandson" was in jail and needed to be bailed out. The person was aware of the scam and hung up.
- A Cherry Street woman went to headquarters to inform police of a phone scam. She received a text from 205-419-3938 stating that her phone and her Verizon account has been frozen. The text instructed her to call the number to fix the issue, and upon doing so, her phone froze and stopped working. She was able to get her phone fixed by Verizon's Fraud Department and did not suffer any losses. The incident happened on Nov. 21.
- There was an accident at Britannia Yachting Center on Fort Salonga Road, and the person left without reporting it on Nov. 23.
- Police responded to Asharoken Avenue for a report of an injured deer. The deer was found dead when police arrived and moved to the side of the road. The Highway Department was told to remove the deer on Monday. The incident happened Nov. 23.
- A man was reportedly ringing door bells and peeking into windows of a home on Johnston Avenue. Police checked the house, which looked to be locked and secure with no signs of break-in, and there was no one in the area. The incident happened Nov. 23.
- A man called police about a potential road rage incident. He said he was walking on the sidewalk of Ocean Avenue when a man was backing out of his driveway and nearly hit him. The driver said he did not see the man walking and apologized. The incident happened Nov. 24.
- A woman living in a Scudder Avenue apartment called police about missing paintings. She believes her downstairs neighbor stole paintings from her apartment at some point over the past year-and-a-half, but was unable to determine when, or which paintings were stolen. Police interviewed her neighbor, a man who said he has avoided all contact with the woman due to past arguments. Police filed a report for informational purposes. The incident happened Nov. 24.
- Suspicious activity was reportedly taking place on the Internet; police responded to James Street on Nov. 24.
