Northport PD Blotter: Officer Injured By Driver Of Stolen Vehicle

ALSO: Graffiti in the gazebo, police help a man whose car ran out of gas, and more, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from April 3 through April 9.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Graffiti was reported in the Village Park gazebo on April 3.
  • An injured deer was reported on Duffy Court on April 4, but police found it was just grazing. It was not injured, police said.
  • Police found a man they thought was suspicious walking up and down Fort Salonga Road wearing dark clothing and a black backpack around 2:20 a.m. April 5. Police thought he may have been looking inside vehicles in the Stop & Shop parking lot. Police stopped the man, who told officers his vehicle in the CVS parking lot ran out of gas. The man said he had no money and was trying to find a place to charge his cell phone. Police gave the man two gallons of gas so he could make it home after ruling out foul play.
  • Children were banging on a Waterside Avenue man's door at 6:30 p.m. April 5. The man told police the children were "kicking his door in" and calling him names. Police spoke with the children's parent and asked to keep her children inside, to which she agreed.
  • Police found a stolen vehicle being driven westbound on Fort Salonga Road around 2:30 a.m. April 6, police said. While police tried to perform a traffic stop, the driver intentionally struck a police car with the officer inside it, police said. The officer suffered neck and back pain and was transported to Huntington Hospital for treatment, police said.
  • Landscapers working on Cozy Lane at 7:30 a.m. April 7 were asked to stop since the ordinance required they start work at 8 a.m. The workers agreed to not do any work that required engines until then.
  • A caller on April 7 claimed a doctor was possibly overprescribing pain medications. The caller said the doctor was his ex-business partner and he was receiving calls from pharmacies that the doctor was issuing multiple pain prescriptions to the same person in multiple states, police said. The caller has a report filed with the DEA and was set to follow up with them on Monday. The caller wanted to file the police report for informational purposes.
  • A possible intoxicated driver was reported on School Street at 6:10 p.m. April 8, but police could not find them.
  • A man was looking into the windows of Main Street businesses around 10:30 p.m. April 9. He told police he was just passing by while his laundry finished.
