Northport PD Blotter: Officers Help With Multiple Water Rescues
ALSO: A man's girlfriend had to pick him up at a gas station after he drove with a suspended license and registration, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from July 20 through July 26.
Incidents
- Someone was reported to be driving recklessly on Fort Salonga Road. The officer found the listed car, but no one was inside. The driver couldn't be reached by police. The incident happened July 21.
- A loose dog was found on the side of Norwood Avenue. A police officer found the dog, which was wearing a collar with proper identification. The officer reunited the dog with its owner. The incident happened July 22.
- Someone was ding-dong-ditching on Rutledge Avenue on July 22, but police couldn't find them.
- An officer on patrol saw a large group of youths on the beach at Scudder Park. They agreed to leave after the officer spoke with them. The incident happened July 22.
- Police responded to Catherine Street on July 23 to help Suffolk police with a woman who was making threats. Northport police remained until enough Suffolk officers arrived.
- Police helped a boater retrieve his vessel at Bayview Avenue on July 24.
- Police responded to Husco Gas Station on Fort Salonga Road for an anonymous report of a possibly intoxicated driver stopped in the gas station. Officers found the man outside his car and interviewed him; he didn't display any signs of being intoxicated. Police investigated and found the registration on the car is suspended, as well as the man's driver's license. Officers contacted the man's girlfriend to pick him up, and he was told he can't drive until his license suspension is cleared. The incident happened July 24.
- A man refused to leave the gazebo at Village Park while setting up for a wedding. He agreed to leave when police showed up without further incident. This happened July 24.
- Two raccoons got trapped in a dumpster near Napper Tandy's around 12:15 p.m. July 25, and police freed them.
- Police responded to Village Dock for a report of a boat possibly sinking. The rope that had the boat secured to the dock got caught under the dock. The rope was released, and the boat stopped listing. The incident happened July 25.
- A raccoon got trapped in a dumpster near Napper Tandy's around 4 p.m. July 25. Police freed the raccoon.
- Northport police responded to Huntington Harbor Gold Star Beach for a fisherman in distress call. Suffolk Marine and Huntington Harbormaster were also on-scene. Marine 15 took a good Samaritan, who had left his vessel adrift to help, back to his boat. The incident happened July 25.
- Police drove home a driver whose car became disabled on Norwood Avenue. Police remained until the car was towed. The incident happened July 25.
- Loud music was being played at a Summit Avenue home around 11:30 p.m. July 25. The homeowner agreed to turn the music off.
- A woman fell while running near Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk on Main Street. She said she tripped on a raised piece of pavement, and her fall caused cuts to her right knee, left hand and arm. She said her left wrist hurt. She declined medical attention. Police took photographs of the sidewalk, and saw there was a lip between the pavement sections that was large enough to cause someone to trip. Photos were sent to the Northport Village Administrator. The incident happened July 26.
- A boat was sinking in Huntington Bay around 2:15 p.m. July 26. The person onboard was in the water and rescued by the Huntington Harbormaster. The person complained of sore ankles and was brought into Huntington. M15 collected debris from the sunken boat and helped mark its location.
- A jet ski became disabled in Northport Bay. The jet ski was towed to Scudder Beach. The incident happened July 26.
- Police responded to Village Dock for a report of a possibly-intoxicated jet ski driver at 6:08 p.m. July 26. The dock master said an unknown person advised him that a group of jet skiers appeared to be intoxicated and were cursing at him. The person who made the report had left by the time police arrived. The jet skiers did not appear to be intoxicated and were not causing any disturbance.
