Northport Police Blotter: 2 Drunken Drivers Arrested

One of the drivers crossed over the white shoulder markings several times, police say. ALSO: A hawk attack, scam, and fraud were reported.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from June 13 through June 19.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Lisa Formato, 45, of Northport, was involved in a car crash on Fort Salonga Road around 7:15 p.m. on June 19, police said. Formato had pin-point, bloodshot and glassy eyes, slurred speech, and her breath smelled of alcohol, police said. She performed poorly on several field sobriety
    tests, police said. Formato was brought to Huntington Hospital to be treated after she took unknown drug substances, police said. Formato was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, and operate motor vehicle by unlicensed driver.
  • David Liegey, 55, of Greenlawn, was driving a 2019 GMC Canyon when he crossed over the white shoulder markings several times while traveling westbound on Fort Salonga Road around 7:40 p.m. June 19, police said. He was stopped at Fort Salonga Road and Stony Hollow Road, police said. Liegey's breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and thick, he was very unsteady on his feet and he performed poorly on several standardized field sobriety tests, police said. Liegey was arrested and charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated.

Incidents

  • A woman admitted to police she backed into a vehicle in the parking lot of First Presbyterian Church on June 13, causing a red tail light to break from the other vehicle. The other vehicle had left by the time she returned. The woman asked the police to contact her if the other vehicle owner asked for the police's help in filing a report.
  • A pick-up truck left the scene of a crash on Fort Salonga Road on June 13.
  • A vehicle became disabled and was partly in the road on Fort Salonga Road on June 14. Police created a safe barrier between the disabled vehicle and oncoming traffic with cones and lights. Police asked for a tow truck, and the driver and vehicle were picked up by Tully's Auto Body.
  • A driver was warned and admonished by police for weaving through traffic on Woodbine Avenue on June 15.
  • A man on June 15 reported scam phone calls where a man called and told him he had won millions of dollars but needed to purchase gift cards in order to claim it. The man knew the calls were a scam and wanted to inform police. The scammer called again when police were at the man's home. The scammer hung up when the officer identified himself and seemingly stopped calling.
  • A man was attacked by a hawk on Main Street on June 16. He declined medical attention.
  • A Burt Avenue resident was warned by police on June 16 not to set off firecrackers after he set two off.
  • A police officer gave a female a ride home after she said she was scared to be walking alone on June 16.
  • A man on June 17 reported a potential credit card fraud to the police. He said he was
    contacted by TD Bank stating that there were a few suspicious charges on his card which he had just received the prior Friday. The man said the bank was able to cancel his card to prevent further charges and is in the process of issuing a new card. A similar incident happened to the man around a month ago. The man did not sustain any financial loss and continues to monitor his credit activity.
  • A boat fire was extinguished by the boat owner at the Northport Yacht Club on June 17.
  • Police shut down a loud party on Sailfish Place at 11:08 p.m. on June 17.
  • A male was in Lewis Road around 12:30 a.m. on June 19 He told police he was just trying to get a ride home before it started raining. Police gave the person a ride home.
  • Police were called to Woodbine Avenue for a report of a man with a gun on the hood of his truck on June 19. Police found a BB gun and bow and arrow on the truck, which the man is allowed to have, police said. The man was in the process of loading his belongings into his truck because he was being evicted from his apartment. Police asked the man to keep the BB gun and bow and arrow in the trunk of his truck and out of the public's view, which he agreed to do.
  • Police asked a Willis Street homeowner to lower the music during a house party around 9:30 p.m. on June 19. The homeowner agreed to turn the music down.
