Northport Police Blotter: 3 Fraudulent Checks Reported

ALSO: Late-night solicitor reported; vehicle leaks "unknown fluid" on roadway; and dog gets loose, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from July 7 through July 13.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A dog got loose on Ocean Avenue on July 7. Police could not find the dog.
  • The State Liquor Authority performed checks at several businesses in the village on July 7, but no violations were found.
  • Someone deposited three fraudulent bank checks from a woman's Bank of America checking account worth $19,500 on June 20, she reported to police. The woman said that her bank will refund her balance so she will not incur any loss at this time.
  • Summonses were issued to the owners of vehicles that were parked in a no-parking zone near Village Hall on July 9.
  • A group of men were fishing on a beach on Steers Avenue on July 10. An officer told the group they were fishing on private property, and they agreed to leave.
  • An officer responded to a Sea Cove Road home around 9:30 p.m. July 11. A woman said a man had knocked on her door and rang her doorbell, stating he wanted to speak to her about pesticides and pest control. The caller said she was alarmed because it was late in the evening. The officer advised the woman that soliciting is allowed by the village, however it is to be done during appropriate hours. The officer told the woman to call back if the solicitor came back past curfew.
  • A man reported a prior motor vehicle crash to police on July 12. The man said his truck, parked on Woodbine Avenue, was hit sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. July 11 and that he saw a tire scuff mark on the driver's side front wheel panel.
  • A Woodhull Court home was egged, the homeowner told police on July 12. The caller said he was away on vacation for a few days and when he returned, he realized his house had been egged.
  • A vehicle was leaking an unknown fluid all over the roadway on Norwood Avenue on July 13. The Northport Fire Department responded and remedied the road hazard. The listed owner/operator contacted a tow company, and the vehicle was removed from the roadway.
