Northport Police Blotter: Artwork Missing; Summonses Issued

ALSO: A woman dropped her phone down a storm drain; and first responders aided Northport Sweet Shop when smoke broke out, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Nov. 20 through Nov. 26.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A driver and vehicle were both found to be suspended because registration was not in effect. Police pulled the driver over on Fort Salonga Road on Nov. 20 and issued a summons and seized the plates from the vehicle to mail to the DMV.
  • Police were called to Giunta's Meat Farm for a report of an argument on Nov. 20. The caller told police they thought the driver of a Hart bus pulled in the back of the shopping center to urinate, and the driver thought the caller was taking pictures of him. The driver left the area. The caller notified Hart Bus.
  • A man reported a missing art piece on Nov. 20. He told police he left his homemade artwork on the sidewalk of school street around 2 p.m. He noticed it was missing at 3 p.m. Police asked for an image of the artwork incase someone turns it in to police headquarters.
  • Police issued a summons to a driver whose car was blocking a driveway on Main Street on Nov. 20.
  • Police and firefighters responded to smoke at the Northport Sweet Shop on Nov. 21.
  • A man found a laptop on Route 25A near Milland Drive on Nov. 21. The laptop's owner claimed it from police.
  • A present was left on a picnic table at Cow Harbor Park on Nov. 22. Police could not find the owner so they took the gift back to headquarters.
  • Police were called to Stanton Street on Nov. 23 for a report of a man claiming he was playing hide and seek. A woman who called police told officers she was letting her dog outside when she saw a man who she did not know, approximately 20 years old, at the end of her driveway. When the caller asked what he was doing, he said he was playing hide and seek with his friends and then ran into the woods. Police could not find him.
  • Police were called to Milland Drive for a report of loud music at 11:12 p.m. Nov. 23. The resident said he did not realize what time it was and agreed to lower it.
  • A woman dropped her phone down a storm drain on Main Street on Nov. 24. She waved down police, who were able to retrieve her phone from the storm drain.
  • A black GMC SUV turned into a village-owned concrete stationary barrier, damaging the passenger side of the vehicle, on Scudder Avenue on Nov. 24. The barrier was placed with enough clearance for vehicles to safely drive past. The vehicle did not stop to file a report.
  • A summons was issued to a driver whose vehicle was parked illegally and blocking the entrance to a Scudder Avenue house on Nov. 25.
