Northport Police Blotter: Catalytic Converter Stolen

ALSO: A woman reported that someone bought a phone and fraudulently opened an account through her Best Buy account, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Dec. 26 through Jan. 1.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Police on Dec. 26 searched a Norwood Avenue home for a person who has an active arrest warrant, but officers could not find the person.
  • Missing items were reported on Waterside Avenue on Dec. 27.
  • A woman on Dec. 28 reported a fraudulent phone purchase. She told police that on Dec. 18, a person she does not know purchased a cell phone and opened an account through her Best Buy account, which has a Chase bank card linked to it. The woman said the phone was picked up at a Best Buy location in New Jersey. She contacted Chase, AT&T, and Best Buy and informed them of the fraud. Her AT&T account was canceled, and she did not lose any money. She told police she put a hold on her credit and wanted to document the incident for informational purposes.
  • A lost AirPod and case were turned in to police headquarters on Dec. 28. The items had been found on James Street.
  • A dog got loose on Sailfish Place on Dec. 29, but the dog's owner was able to retrieve it.
  • A puppy got lost on Fort Salonga Road on Dec. 29. Police could not find the dog's owner. The puppy was picked up by Huntington Animal Safety Control.
  • A vehicle was illegally parked next to the construction fencing for a hotel on Woodside Avenue on Dec. 29. It was blocking the entire northbound lane of traffic on Woodside Avenue. A summons was issued to the owner.
  • Police were called to Bayview Avenue for an argument between two neighbors on Dec. 29. A man told police that his neighbors have been walking their dog on his property. Police found dog droppings on the man's property where he said the dog was walked. Police spoke with the neighbor, and he denied walking his dog on the property, which he also claimed was his own. The two neighbors had an ongoing argument over a property line. The dog owner was warned that the man would start taking video of any violations and that a summons may be issued for future violations.
  • The driver of a silver car was revving his engine around 6 a.m. and again at 5 p.m. Dec. 31 on Norwood Avenue, a resident told police.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen from a car parked on Main Street on Dec. 31.
  • Missing items were reported on Waterside Avenue on Dec. 31.
  • Window screens were tampered with on Terry Road on Dec. 31.
  • A Garfield Street home was broken into sometime between Dec. 23 and Dec. 29. The break-in was reported to police on Jan. 1.
  • Police were called to Northport Village Park on Jan. 1 for a report of a group of teens that possibly damaged a Christmas tree.
