Northport Police Blotter: Disabled Trucks, Mail Scam, More

ALSO: A group of kids reportedly threw dirt and rocks at a man's car, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from March 27 through April 2.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A man reported a mail scam to police on March 28. He told police he received paperwork in the mail from TIAA similar to new account paperwork such as a debit card and checks. The man does not have any affiliation or accounts with TIAA. He did not lose any money and was advised to put a hold on his credit and confirm with TIAA and his personal bank to make sure no unauthorized account was created or accessed.
  • Summonses were issued to vehicles parked in the church lot on Main Street that did not have proper parking passes on March 29.
  • A Burt Avenue man on March 29 told police his neighbor's landscapers were working in his yard after debris from his neighbor's yard was blown onto his and he asked that the crew clean it up. The man said his neighbor came up to him and became very aggressive and hostile toward him, demanding to know why the crew was working in his yard.
  • A large piece of wood was removed from Fort Salonga Road on March 29.
  • A sick raccoon on Main Street was euthanized and disposed of on March 29.
  • A man told police on March 29 that when he picked his daughter up from an after-school program at Ocean Avenue School, she said there was a minor bus crash near the playground where a bus hit a fence. A man in a dark SUV responded to take photos of the crash scene when the girl believes he may have took pictures of the children playing. Police told the man that the vehicle was registered to the bus company.
  • A truck got stuck on a hill on Logan Hill Road on March 30, blocking the roadway. Police directed traffic as the Northport Village Highway Department helped the truck driver. A summons was issued to the driver for failing to obey a traffic control device.
  • A person dog-sitting on Northwest Drive reported there was a woman he did not know banging on the front door and windows around 12:30 a.m. March 31. The woman told police she was trying to get the person's attention, as the backyard lights were shining into her bedroom. The dog-sitter turned the lights off.
  • An elderly woman was unconscious on Bayview Avenue on March 31. She was taken to Huntington Hospital by Northport Rescue.
  • A man on March 31 reported to police he lost his wallet somewhere on Main Street on March 28. Police told him to cancel his credit cards to prevent any transactions and filled out a MV-78B form for the lost driver's license. Police told the man they would contact him if someone turned the wallet in.
  • A man told police on March 31 that youths were throwing rocks and dirt at his car. He told police that a teenage girl left a message on his Ring camera admitting she kicked dirt on his car. Police spoke with the girl and her parent, both of whom agreed to apologize to the man about leaving the message on his Ring camera, but they denied actually disturbing the vehicle. The man accepted the apology but wanted the incident documented. The vehicle was not damaged.
  • A woman reportedly cut herself with a broken bottle on School Street and ran off on April 1, police said.
  • Police found a check, and its issuer asked police to destroy it on April 2.
  • A tractor-trailer became disabled on Fort Salonga Road around 5:30 p.m. April 2. A heavy duty rescue was called to help remove the truck.
