Northport Police Blotter: A Dozen Raccoons Euthanized By Officers
Two lawn signs, including a Biden/Harris sign, were stolen from someone's front yard, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Sept. 28 through Oct. 5.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- A sick raccoon on Oak Street was euthanized and disposed of by police at 9:14 a.m. Sept. 28.
- A dead raccoon on Oak Street was disposed of by police at 11:26 a.m. Sept. 28.
- A sick raccoon on Main Street was euthanized and disposed of by police on Sept. 29.
- A summons was issued to an illegally-parked car on Woodbine Avenue on Sept. 30.
- Police responded to Cow Harbor Park for a report of a loud flute player at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 30. Officers determined the flutist was playing at a reasonable sound level.
- Police responded to Main Street for a report of a vehicle driving around with its occupants yelling inappropriate things from a bullhorn at 8:10 p.m. Sept. 30. Police could not find the car.
- Police responded to Main Street for a report of a sick raccoon on the sidewalk. However, the raccoon didn't seem sick, so police removed it from the sidewalk to a wooded area. The incident happened Sept. 30.
- Police responded to Oak Street for a report of a sick raccoon. An officer saw a raccoon that "clearly had distemper." The raccoon was euthanized and disposed of on Oct. 1.
- A woman went to police headquarters to report a petty larceny. She said between Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, overnight, someone stole a non-partisan lawn sign, as well as a Joe Biden/Kamala Harris lawn sign, from her home. She said a similar incident happened about a month prior. She filed the report for informational purposes.
- A sick raccoon on Highland Avenue was euthanized and disposed of by police on Oct. 2.
- A sick raccoon on Maple Avenue was euthanized and disposed of by police on Oct. 2.
- A sick raccoon on Bayview Avenue was euthanized and disposed of by police at 10:38 a.m. Oct. 3.
- A sick raccoon on Bayview Avenue was euthanized and disposed of by police at 11:58 a.m. Oct. 3.
- A sick raccoon on Burr Avenue was euthanized and disposed of by police on Oct. 3.
- Police responded to Oak Street for a report of a sick raccoon at 3 p.m. Oct. 3. When police arrived, the raccoon was up in a tree and did not appear sick. Police told the caller to contact them again if the raccoon returned to the ground and "still appears sick." The person called back three hours later, stating the raccoon was on the ground and appeared sick. Police euthanized the raccoon.
- A car drove into a building on Asharoken Avenue on Oct. 3. Northport police helped Asharoken police with the incident.
- Police responded to School Street for a report of a driver possibly leaving the scene of a crash in what involved a white Jeep and black Honda. Police searched the area but couldn't find the cars. The incident happened Oct. 3.
- Police responded to Main Street for a report of a woman yelling on the sidewalk. Police found the woman, who was drunk. Police spoke with her significant other, who said they were heading home. They left without further incident. The incident happened at 10:35 p.m. Oct. 3.
- An officer saw a man stumbling in the road on Reservoir Avenue at 12:09 a.m. Oct. 4. The man was drunk, so the officer brought him home.
- A sick raccoon on Vail Street was euthanized and disposed of by police on Oct. 4.
- A sick raccoon on Gilbert Street was euthanized and disposed of by police on Oct. 4.
- Police responded to Main Street for a report of a sick raccoon. An officer saw a raccoon that showed signs of distemper. The raccoon was euthanized and disposed of on Oct. 5.
- Police responded to Scudder Place for a report of a sick raccoon. An officer saw a raccoon that showed signs of distemper. The raccoon was euthanized and disposed of on Oct. 5.
- Police responded to Burr Avenue for a report of numerous unwanted phone calls. An officer told the person that these were potential scams and to never provide any financial or personal information over the phone. The incident happened Oct. 5.
- Someone visited police headquarters on Oct. 5 to report missing chinaware. She said while packing in preparation of moving, she noticed some of her china was missing. She didn't know when she last saw everything in the set or its value. She said she would add additional locks to the doors for security, and asked that the incident be documented.
- Police responded to Main Street for a report of a woman throwing coffee at moving cars. A man told police that while he was driving down Main Street, the woman was walking in the middle of the road, and as he passed her, she threw a cup of coffee on his new car. The woman was stopped, and she told police she tripped and did not intentionally throw the coffee. The woman agreed to pay the man to get his car washed and handed him $40. The man was satisfied with her paying him. The woman had been warned by police several times to stop walking in the middle of the street and to stay on the sidewalk. The incident happened around 6:45 p.m. Oct. 5.
