Northport Police Blotter: Driver Threatened, Thought He'd Be Shot
He said the man, who was arrested, threatened to shoot him and his family in the past. ALSO: two charged with DWI: Northport PD.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent arrests and incidents from the Northport Village area, from Sept. 16 to Sept. 22.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Steven Millar, 33, of Brooklyn, was arrested on a Northport Village arrest warrant, police said. He was charged with failure to appear on Sept. 16.
- Allen Scalzo, 68, of Northport, was driving a Dodge Durango southbound on Laurel Avenue at 7:38 p.m. on Sept. 16 when he drifted in and out of his lane several times and came to a full stop at a crosswalk when there was no one there, police said. He then made a very wide turn onto Scudder Avenue, where police pulled him over, they said. When police interviewed Scalzo, the officer said there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath, his speech was slurred and sluggish, his eyes were glossy and bloodshot and he was very unsteady on his feet. Scalzo couldn't complete the field sobriety tests and refused to take a breathalyzer, police said. He once again refused a chemical test at Police Headquarters before complaining of chest pain, so he was transported to Huntington Hospital, police said. Scalzo was ruled fit to be confined, so he was brought back to the police station. His car was impounded due to previous DWI convictions. Scalzo was charged with DWI: previous conviction, unsafe lane change and refuse pre-screen test.
- Nicolas Deguido, 21, of East Northport, walked up to the driver side window of a truck driver, who was eating a sandwich near Northside Deli, and challenged him to a fight, police said. The driver told police Deguido lifted his sweatshirt up to show an object covered by his shirt that looked like a gun, police said. The driver told police Deguido said "I got something for you, come out and handle this," police said. The driver feared he was going to be killed, police said. The driver said Deguido has made threats to shoot him and some of his family members in the past, police said. Northport Police told Patch Deguido didn't actually have a gun on him when he was arrested. Deguido was arrested and charged with third-degree menacing on Sept. 17.
- James Scardino, 57, of Levittown, was picked up at Nassau County Jail by Northport Police on an active arrest warrant, police said. He was charged with failure to pay fine on Sept. 18.
- Robert Cannon, 52, of Northport, drove onto the curb of Norwood Avenue at 9:09 p.m. on Sept. 18., police said. Police found Cannon behind the wheel with the engine running and the car in gear, they said. He did not respond to verbal comments by an officer, police said. When the officer opened the door, he caught a strong odor of alcohol, saw an open container on the floor between Cannon's feet and noticed Cannon wasn't wearing any pants, police said. He couldn't answer simple questions, his breath reeked of alcohol, his speech was slurred and incoherent, his eyes were glossy and bloodshot and he couldn't stand without using his car as support, police said. Police said Cannon was highly intoxicated and needed medical assistance. He was transported to Huntington Hospital and issued an appearance ticket.
Incidents
- A bird was trapped in the gas fireplace of a Lord Joes Landing home, which was freed by police on Sept. 16.
- A man's James Street property was damaged due to construction in the Steers Pit area. The man said because of drilling in the pit area, his wooden retaining wall in the back of his property is collapsing, there is a crack around the patio of his pool, the wood on his deck is separating and there are cracks in the ceiling inside his home. A report was made for informational purposes and forwarded to the Village Clerk on Sept. 18.
- A boat was damaged due to the floating dock having several bolts and screws extending from
the rub rail at Scudder Park. The incident was reported on Sept. 18. - A woman who lives on Willis Street notified police of a dog fight between her 8-pound morkie and her neighbor's tan pitbull mix. She said the pitbull ran up to her morkie and grabbed her by the neck and started pulling. The neighbor came out of his house to grab both his dogs. The woman took her morkie to the veterinarian, where it was determined there were no bite marks or punctures to the skin, though the dog was given a precautionary injection. Police interviewed the pitbull's owner, who said his dog is up to date on vaccines and had gotten out of the yard when a gust of wind blew open the gate. The incident happened Sept. 18.
- A woman received a call at 5:20 p.m. on Sept. 18 from a person who claimed to be calling on behalf of Venmo, and requested the authorization code that was sent to her via email because her account had supposedly been compromised. She said at 5:21 p.m., someone signed into her account and sent 4 payments totaling $2,980 to other accounts. She saw the payments and called Venmo and her bank to freeze the accounts, which were frozen at 5:38 p.m. She suffered no monetary loss and requested police document it for informational purposes.
- Loud music was being played at a home on Johnston Avenue. The music was lowered or turned off by the owner. The incident happened Sept. 20.
- Trees were smoking and smoldering on Norwood Avenue, though they were extinguished by Northport Fire Department on Sept. 22.
- A driver was issued an appropriate summons for illegally parking on Woodbine Avenue on Sept. 22.
