- Gregory Dietrich, 40, of Northport, was seen driving a red Toyota northbound on Waterside Avenue when he swerved out of his lane and crossed over the solid white line several times, police said. Officers stopped Dietrich at the intersection of Doris Avenue and Norwood Avenue and conducted an E-Justice DMV check, which revealed Dietrich had a suspended license for failure to pay a fine, making Dietrich "very nervous," police said. When police asked him to leave his car, Dietrich dropped a glass pipe commonly used for smoking crack and stepped on it, causing it to break, police said. Police found a white piece of crack rock in the cup holder, two glass pipes under the drivers floor mat and two hypodermic needles along with a spoon with residue behind the passenger seat, they said. Dietrich was arrested and brought to police headquarters, where an officer found a clear baggie full of a brown powder hidden in Dietrich's underwear, police said. Both the brown powder and white rock tested positive to be cocaine, police said. Dietrich was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, tampering with physical evidence, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and unsafe lane change on Oct. 15.
