Northport Police Blotter: Drunk Woman Falls Asleep In Running Car

ALSO: A drugged-up man wanders the road, two people argue over nail polish, and a runaway dumpster smashes into a tree, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent arrests and incidents from the Northport Village area, from Oct. 21 to Oct. 27.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Cliff Kelly, 56, of Asharoken, blew a stop sign on Church Street while driving without a license on Oct. 21 at 11:15 a.m., police said. He was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation: three or more suspensions, operate motor vehicle by unlicensed driver, failed to stop at stop sign and no/expired inspection certificate.
  • Kathleen Morse, 39, of Locust Valley, was found passed out in the driver seat of a 2015
    Toyota Prius while the car was running on Main Street at 7:53 p.m. on Oct. 22, police said. When an officer interviewed her, Morse's breath smelled of alcohol, her eyes were glassy and bloodshot, her speech was sluggish and slurred, she was very unsteady on her feet and she performed poorly on several field sobriety tests, police said. She was arrested and brought to police headquarters, where she took a breath test, police said. Morse was charged with DWI, DWI: BAC reading and installation and operation of ignition interlock D. She was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.
  • Ian Vandeurs, 27, of Northport, was found stumbling in the middle of Valley Avenue on Oct. 24 at 9:39 p.m., police said. When an officer interviewed him, Vandeurs had pinpoint pupils, was lethargic, his speech was slurred and he was disoriented when questioned, police said. He told the officer he had needles on him, police said. After Vandeurs was arrested, the officer found Vandeurs was carrying a controlled substance, police said. He was brought to police headquarters and charged with appearance in public under influence of narcotics, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is scheduled for arraignment on Monday evening.

Incidents

  • Police responded to Life Nails Spa & Bar for a report of a dispute. Both involved said they had a verbal argument about the nail polish used on the person's nails. The person left the business and the area. The incident happened Oct. 22.
  • A dumpster rolled into a tree was found on James Street. Police found the dumpster had rolled away from where it was originally placed by the truck driver. A driver narrowly avoided crashing into the dumpster as it was rolling. The dumpster came to a rest on the tree. The officer told the truck driver immediately remove an additional dumpster that was
    still at the original drop location and then return to remove the dumpster at the bottom of James Street. After interviewing the truck driver, police determined that while he was dropping the dumpster, he failed to properly secure the dumpster for the incline of the street. The officer warned and admonished the truck driver. The tree, the curb and a street sign were damaged. The incident happened around 7:50 a.m. on Oct. 25.
  • A woman living on Scudder Avenue got into a dispute with a Verizon worker. When police arrived, the woman complained about the Verizon employee who was there to
    install the 5G network. She said she had a medical condition that requires her to stay away from WiFi networks. The officer told her he was unable to stop the Verizon crew from working and that she should reach out to Verizon corporate and village hall with her concerns. The incident happened on Oct. 25.
  • A person was blasting loud music from a home on Whispering Fields Drive around 1 a.m. before police warned and admonished them. The incident happened Oct. 26.
  • A person went to headquarters to tell police the street and stop sign, at the intersection of Main Street and Bayview Avenue, had been knocked over by a vehicle. Police reviewed camera footage and saw that a USPS box truck did back into the sign, knocking it over. The driver went to headquarters to fill out a form. The incident happened Oct. 26.
  • A woman's neighbor was yelling at her children; they live on Gilbert Street. She said that the neighbor has become aggressive towards her and her family several times. A report was filed for informational purposes on Oct. 26.
  • What were thought to be gun shots on Sea Cove Road were actually fireworks, according to police. The officer couldn't find where the fireworks were coming from. The incident happened on Oct. 26.
