Northport Police Blotter: Drunken Man Drives Into Stone Wall
ALSO: A woman reports a car has followed her on multiple occasions, and a gun was found at the Village Dock harbor, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent arrests and incidents from the Northport Village area, from Dec. 16 through Dec. 22.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- James Monahan, 66, of Northport, was driving a black 2017 Jaguar on the corner of Nautilus Avenue and Ocean Avenue at midnight Dec. 17 when he crashed into a stone retaining wall and drove off, police said a witness told an officer. Monahan's breath smelled strongly of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred, he was very unsteady on his feet and he performed poorly on several field sobriety tests, police said. Monahan was arrested and charged with DWI, DWI: BAC reading and leaving the scene of an incident on Dec. 17.
- Paul Hanzel, 49, of Ronkonkoma, was issued a field appearance ticket for disorderly conduct on Fort Salonga Road, police said. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct hazardous or physically offensive condition on Dec. 21.
Incidents
- A woman was driving on Laurel Avenue when she saw a "small red car" was following her and pulling over when she pulled over. She told police she didn't know why someone would be following her, though she did have a non-amicable breakup in a relationship awhile back. She said similar things happened in areas outside of Northport's jurisdiction. The woman was told to call 911 immediately if it happened again and not to pull over unless in a public place. She was also told to report past occurrences in other jurisdictions and to record license plate numbers of offending cars if she has the chance. The incident was reported 8:12 a.m. on Dec. 17.
- A man walked up to the front door of a Woodhull Place home but left when the video showed he might have read the last name on the doors. He pulled out his phone as he walked away. It looked like he went to the wrong house by mistake and was supposed to be next door. The resident said college kids next door often have people at the house. The incident happened Dec. 18.
- A resident and Village employee got into a dispute on Logan Hill Road. The resident said an unknown village employee driving the sanding truck yelled at him and called him an "idiot." The resident said the argument was because he was blocking the roadway with a delivery truck and the Village employee wanted him to move the truck. No crime was reported. The incident happened Dec. 18.
- Roommates got into a fight on Catherine Street. Northport police waited until Suffolk police arrived. The incident happened Dec. 19.
- A woman visited police headquarters to report a possible phone scam. She got a phone call from The Geek Squad, which the woman said she has an account with. She said a man named Jack Watson from The Geek Squad called her, saying he wanted her to go to Macy's and then call him back for further instructions. The woman didn't lose any money. The incident happened Dec. 19.
- A dog got stuck between the bars of a wrought iron railing on Nautilus Avenue. An officer was able to free the dog without hurting it or damaging the railing. The incident happened Dec. 19.
- Police responded to Valley Avenue on reports of a suspicious vehicle, but it was just two parents recording their children for a school project on Dec. 20.
- Police responded to Village Dock in Constitution Square on a report of a gun being found. The officer spoke with the finder, who said his son was magnet fishing and found the firearm in the harbor. The gun turned out to be a 32ACP Savage 1907, with a serial number that was defaced and/or damaged. Partial Ejustice didn't yield any results. The incident happened Dec. 22.
