Northport Police Blotter: Drunken Man Swerves In & Out Of Lane

He crossed the double-yellow line several times on Fort Salonga Road one evening earlier last week, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from March 30 through April 5.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • David Robinson, 54, of Saint James, was driving a gray Honda Accord recklessly west on Fort Salonga Road just before 8 p.m. April 1, police said. An officer saw the Honda cross over the double-yellow line several times, police said. The officer stopped Robinson at Fort Salonga Road and Lincoln Avenue, and observed Robinson's breath reeked of alcohol, his eyes glassy, his speech slurred and sluggish, that he was very unsteady on his feet when he was asked to get out of his car, and he performed poorly on several field sobriety tests, police said. Robinson was arrested and took a breath test at police headquarters; he was released on his own recognizance when he sobered up, police said. He was charged with DWI: BAC reading (an E felony), DWI (an E felony) and unsafe lane change.

Incidents

  • A Sea Cove Road man was asked to stop working on his truck for the evening at 6 p.m. when a noise complaint was made on March 30.
  • A bicycle fell into the Northport Harbor water from the bulkhead. Its owner couldn't get it because of the high tide. An officer told the owner to return when the tide is out. The incident happened March 31.
  • An officer saw a man walking around Main Street at 3:40 a.m. April 1 looking into several store windows. The officer asked the man what he was doing walking around Main Street at such an early hour. He told the officer he was unable to go home due to an active Order of Protection involving his girlfriend, so he wanted to take a walk by the water. He agreed to leave the area.
  • Police responded to Fifth Avenue for a report of a man with a fever and cough. A paramedic evaluated the man, who did not meet the criteria to be transported. The paramedic gave information and instructions to the man. The incident happened April 1.
  • A man dropped his money clip and money in the parking lot of Stop & Shop at Fort Salonga Road. He said he parked in the lot, walked across the street to Northport Deli, paid for his food and walked back across the street. He said he wipes everything down when he returns to his truck, and might have left the money clip on the bed cover of the pickup truck as he drove off. He had driven to Laurel Avenue and Dickinson Avenue before he realized he didn't have his money. He turned around and drove back to Stop & Shop, but his money was gone. The incident happened April 1.
  • An unwanted letter was received by a Steers Avenue homeowner. Police called the person who sent the letter and told them to stop communicating with the Steers Avenue resident. The person agreed, and the caller was satisfied. The incident happened April 2.
  • A woman with respiratory difficulty living on Scudder Place was brought to Huntington Hospital by Northport Rescue on April 4.
  • Police headed to Steers Beach for a report of an overcrowded parking lot, but saw no violations of social distancing after touring the lot. The incident happened April 4.
  • A white truck was being driven around Municipal Lot #1 in Constitution Square erratically. An officer warned and admonished the driver to stop behaving inappropriately on April 4.
  • A man and woman were reportedly yelling in the street on Church Street. An officer interviewed the woman, who was driving, and she said she was on her way home and was not having a verbal argument with the other person. The incident happened April 4.
  • A shed fire broke out on Russell Court on April 5.
  • An anonymous caller said numerous people were hanging out at Village Park. Officers arrived and saw everyone was following the social distancing guidelines. The incident happened April 5.
  • A black dog from Burt Avenue got loose in the neighborhood on April 5. An officer found the woman who owned the dog, and they were reunited.
