Northport Police Blotter: Drunken Woman Falls Asleep Behind Wheel
The car was running, police say. The woman faces DWI charges.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Aug. 3 through Aug. 9.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Moninne LaPalme, 50, of East Northport, was found passed out behind the wheel with the car running on Fort Salonga Road at 4:10 p.m. Aug. 5, police said. The officer opened the door and turned the car off, police said. While interviewing LaPalme, the officer saw her eyes were bloodshot and glassy, heard her slurred speech, smelled alcohol on her breath and watched as she was unsteady on her feet, police said. She told the officer she had alcohol about an hour before she was found, police said. LaPalme was brought to Huntington Hospital and consented to a blood draw, police said. She was arrested and charged with DWI and DWI: BAC reading.
Incidents
- Police were called to a Lewis Road home for a report of a loud party at 8:40 p.m. Aug. 3. An officer spoke with a resident who agreed to end the party.
- A woman was riding her bicycle on Scudder Avenue down the hill and flipped over her handlebars when applying the breaks. She suffered a cut to her head and was taken to Huntington Hospital by Northport Rescue on Aug. 4.
- There were multiple reports of trees falling throughout Northport on Aug. 4, with some falling onto cars or homes, police said.
- Police responded to Hawkins Drive at 11 p.m. Aug. 4 for a report of a loud party and yelling. An officer told a resident to reduce the noise from the party, to which they agreed.
- There was a report of fraudulent charges on a debit card on James Street on Aug. 5.
- A boater was seen speeding in Northport Harbor on Aug. 6. The driver was ticketed.
- Police responded to Mariners Lane for a report of a sick raccoon in a garbage can. The raccoon didn't appear sick, and it escaped when the can was pushed over. The incident happened Aug. 7.
- A small fire broke out on Maple Circle when wires were arcing, causing the wires to burn, the Northport Fire Department said. PSEG was notified 8:30 a.m. Aug. 7. At 11:10 a.m., police responded for a report of flames and smoke to electrical lines, and the garage was reportedly electrically charged. At 1:30 p.m., a telephone pole caught fire. PSEG sent a foreman over.
- Police responded to Scudder Avenue for a possible leaving the scene incident at 12:09 p.m. Aug. 7. A woman told police she saw the driver's side rear-view mirror was cracked, and that it might have happened on Scudder Avenue. The woman filed the report for informational purposes only.
- The owner of Rockin' Fish went to police headquarters to report contact between his staff and the tenant who rents a space behind his business. The owner told police his staff was instructed not to speak with the tenant, but on Aug. 7, the woman approached the staff and called their in-common landlord to complain that an umbrella was blocking her business signage. The Rockin' Fish owner says this has been an ongoing issue, and that the woman has complained several times to the landlord about his business, and that it's impacting his daily operation. No laws were violated, and the report was filed for informational purposes at the request of the Rockin' Fish owner.
- An officer stationed in Northport Bay saw a boat hailing from the United Kingdom anchored in the bay around 6:30 p.m. Aug. 17. The people on the boat had valid licenses to cruise United States waters.
- Someone was burning leaves behind their Dolphin Lane home. Police asked them to stop, which they did. The incident was reported Aug. 8.
- Police responded to Earl Avenue for a report of a dispute. However, it turns out there was no dispute. The person reporting the incident told the officer that a neighbor had some tree trimming work performed, and at the same time, the crew cut some branches on her tree in her backyard leaving one branch placed in a hazardous manner. The woman said she spoke with the trimming company, which said it would contact her once the crew working on Earl Avenue was spoken to. The woman filed the report on Aug. 8 for informational purposes.
- Police responded to Municipal Lot #1 in Constitution Square for a report of a flying drone. The person was told by police that flying drones is not allowed in the park. They agreed to stop. The incident happened Aug. 9.
- Police responded to Skipper's Pub for a report of a woman threatening employees. The caller told police the woman was "highly intoxicated, very loud and disruptive," so she was asked to leave. The woman told police she was having a conversation with a friend about politics and believes that's why she was told to leave. Police suggested a trespass affidavit, but the pub declined. The woman then left without further issue. The incident happened Aug. 9.
