Northport Police Blotter: Fraudulent Bank Account Opened

The account was opened in a woman's name when she did not apply to open a new account.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Nov. 29 through Dec. 5.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Two neighbors were reportedly arguing on Main Street on Nov. 30. A woman said a man was blocking the entrance to her apartment on purpose while she was trying to move out. The man said he was never in her way, but would stay in his apartment with his door closed to avoid further interaction with the woman.
  • Police responded to Northport Fish & Lobster on Nov. 30 for a report of a man on the property when he is not allowed to be. The man was in his parked van and told police he
    hired a helper to take items from his van and place it into the property, and that he never entered the property himself. The man told police he knows he is not allowed on the property and that he would leave the area.
  • A driver's vehicle broke down in the middle of Fort Salonga Road on Dec. 3. Police helped the driver get to the side of the road so he could call a tow truck.
  • An identity theft report was filed by a Bayview Avenue resident on Dec. 3.
  • A petty larceny incident was reported on Highland Road on Dec. 4.
  • A tan sedan was speeding and tailgating another vehicle on Woodbine Avenue at the
    intersection of Beach Avenue on Dec. 4.
  • A possibly fraudulent bank account was reported to police on Dec. 5. A woman said she received a text message from Capital One Bank stating that her account is now open for her to use, despite her never applying to open one. The woman has not suffered any monetary loss and has already reached out to the major credit bureaus to monitor her accounts. Police told the woman to contact the bank to get more information regarding the account.
  • A woman's purse was found at Chase Bank on Main Street on Dec. 5. Police could not reach the owner and placed the purse in the temporary bin at the Northport Police Department.
