Northport Police Blotter: Home's Garage Potentially Broken Into

ALSO: More raccoons were reported to have distemper, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Oct. 12 through Oct. 18.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A damaged municipal parking lot sign was found on the sidewalk of Scudder Avenue on Oct. 13. No witness knew how the sign was actually damaged.
  • Police responded to Northwest Drive for a report of a truck throwing tree chips from a gas-powered chipper. The employee said he would cover the top of the truck to prevent the chips from landing in the street. The incident happened Oct. 14.
  • Police responded to Northwest Drive for a report of a sick raccoon on Oct. 14. "The raccoon was apparently suffering from distemper and was euthanized/properly disposed of," police said.
  • An unleashed dog ran around Scudder Park and defecated multiple times on Oct. 14. The man who owned the dog was issued a field appearance ticket.
  • An opossum got trapped in a garbage can on Prospect Avenue on Oct. 14. An officer knocked the can over to free the opossum.
  • A trailer was blocking a lane on Main Street on Oct. 14. An officer saw a trailer not connected to a vehicle. A summons was issued, and the vehicle was removed from the street.
  • Police responded to Mariners Lane for a report of a loud band playing outside at 8:23 p.m. Oct. 14. An officer spoke with the resident who agreed to stop playing the music.
  • A Northwest Drive resident was receiving unwanted texts. A woman told an officer that someone her family knows has been texting her for the past hour and has done so in the past. The woman texted back, asking him to stop, but he continued. The officer contacted the man over the phone and told him to stop texting the woman "immediately" or he might face harassment charges. The man agreed to no longer text or call the woman. The incident happened Oct. 14.
  • A cleaning employee at North Shore Vet Hospital was playing music too loudly at 7 a.m. Oct. 15. The employee agreed to lower the music when police arrived.
  • A sick raccoon was reported on Main Street on Oct. 15. An officer found the raccoon, which was "clearly ill." The raccoon was put down and disposed of.
  • A sick raccoon was reported in Municipal Lot #8 on Main Street on Oct. 16. An officer said the raccoon was obviously sick and euthanized it.
  • Someone seemingly entered a garage at a Lewis Road home on Oct. 16. A woman told police that her garage door was closed the night of Oct. 15. When she went outside in the morning, she found the door open. There is no electric door opener, and no one was granted permission to enter. Nothing appeared to be stolen, she said, and she wanted the incident documented.
  • A sick raccoon was reported on Scudder Avenue on Oct. 17. It was "clearly suffering
    from distemper," according to an officer. The raccoon was euthanized and disposed of.
  • A sick raccoon was reported on Seaview Avenue on Oct. 17. It was "clearly suffering from distemper," police said. The raccoon was euthanized and disposed of.
