Northport Police Blotter: Identity Theft Reported

The person or people behind the identity theft tried to steal hundreds of dollars from a man, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Jan. 23 through Jan. 29.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A Norwood Avenue woman told police on Jan. 23 she may have been scammed over the phone. The woman said she responded to a scam number via text and cell phone call and gave various personal info. She froze all of her accounts with Citibank and told police she did not sustain financial losses at this time. Police informed the woman to monitor the rest of her accounts and contact her banks if any changes occur.
  • A 2-year-old boy was choking on Lewis Road on Jan. 23. He was no longer choking by the time police got there. Northport Rescue responded, but the parent declined aid.
  • A man reported a possible identity theft at CVS Pharmacy on Fort Salonga Road on Jan. 23. The man told police he withdrew cash from the ATM at CVS using his Visa debit card. The man said his banking institution told him that, on the same day, Jan. 18, just hours later, two withdrawals of $400 ($800 total) were taken from an ATM on Fort Salonga Road by an unknown person. The man said on Jan. 19, $800 was withdrawn from the ATM at the CVS at 399 Jerusalem Ave. and on Jan. 22, $40 was withdrawn from the CVS at 1944 Deer Park Ave., also by an unknown person. The complainant states his banking institution has refunded all funds.
  • A sick deer was reported on Ocean Avenue on Jan. 24. Police found a deer they say was "clearly ill and dying" in someone's yard and euthanized it.
  • A loose clam boat began rubbing on the Village Dock on Jan. 24. The boat owner was notified to remove the boat.
  • A deer got stuck in a fence on Bluff Point Road on Jan. 25. Police freed the deer from the fence.
  • People were removing items from a vacant Woodbine Avenue building on Jan. 25. The people told police a tenant said she owned the property and they could take what they wanted. The officer told them she did not have authorization to do so, so the group moved the property back inside the store. The tenant was warned and admonished by police.
  • A woman fainted at The Wine Cellar On Main on Jan. 26. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
  • A man was found unconscious on Main Street at 1:13 a.m. Jan. 27. At 1:20 a.m., someone else overdosed while police were helping the man, so police called for a second ambulance.
  • A vehicle was parked partially on the sidewalk on Waterside Avenue on Jan. 28. Police could not track down the vehicle's owner.
  • Residents of a Locust Road home agreed to lower the music after someone complained of a loud party at 6:55 p.m. Jan. 28.
