Northport Police Blotter: Large Check Possibly Tampered With

ALSO: A vehicle fire, a bicyclist injured during a fall, a loose dog, and a petty larceny reported.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Nov. 1 through Nov. 6.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A petty larceny was reported on Milland Drive on Nov. 1.
  • A Lord Joe's Landing resident on Nov. 2 reported that someone changed a check and deposited it into a bank account in Georgia. The man issued a check to a known buyer and when he was entering the check for his records, he noticed the addressee had been deleted and altered. The amount, $34,272, was not changed. The man requested documentation of the incident for the bank, as the fraud department for People's United Bank is set to investigate.
  • A summons was issued to a vehicle parked in a handicap space on Church Street on Nov. 3.
  • A dog got loose on Chestnut Circle on Nov. 4. Police could not find the dog.
  • The Northport Fire Department fixed a leaking fire hydrant by tightening its valves on Johnston Avenue on Nov. 5.
  • A woman told Northport police that an unmarked police vehicle tried to pull her over on Scudder Avenue because she had a tail light out on Nov. 5. She wanted to confirm that it was
    really a police officer. She was told it was not Northport police because no unmarked cars were on patrol during the time she was pulled over. Her message was sent to Suffolk police. Suffolk police confirmed the unmarked police car was one of their officers.
  • Police found a loose dog on Main Street on Nov. 5. The dog got loose after its owner left the garage open.
  • A Reservoir Avenue resident agreed to lower the music at a loud party around 9 p.m. on Nov. 5.
  • A man riding a bicycle was taken to Huntington Hospital by Northport Rescue after he fell and suffered injuries on Norwood Avenue on Nov. 6. The bicyclist said he believes his bike tire got caught by an elevated portion of the road, causing him to fall. Pictures of the road were sent to Northport Village.
  • A vehicle caught fire on Fort Salonga Road on Nov. 6. The Northport Fire Department and Suffolk police responded.
