Northport Police Blotter: Man In Car Reportedly Stalks Woman
The woman was walking when a man slowly followed her in his car, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from June 15 through June 21.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- A man lost cell phone service after his phone was hacked. He said he'd call his cell phone provider. The incident was reported June 15.
- Police responded to a Woodbine Avenue home for a report of a woman refusing to leave. The complainant told police the woman was walking onto private property and wanted her to leave. Police told the woman she was trespassing, and she then left. The incident was reported June 15.
- Police were called to Village Park, where an employee reported someone damaged the hand dryer in the men's bathroom. An officer noted that someone or a group broke the hand dryer and tried to take it off the wall, rendering it inoperable. The incident happened sometime between 8 p.m. June 15 and 7:30 a.m. June 16.
- A woman told police while she was parked on Woodbine Avenue, another car backed up, tapped her bumper and drove away. There was minor paint transfer damage. The woman asked for a report to be taken for informational purposes. The incident was reported June 16.
- Police were called to Liv Beautiful on Woodbine Avenue for reports of COVID executive order non-compliance three times between June 15 and 16, but the business appeared to be closed all three times.
- Police were called to Steers Avenue for a report of a man in his car following a woman while she was walking. The caller said the man was following her and possibly talking to her out his window while she was walking up Steers Avenue. The car followed her up to Ocean Avenue, then stopped, waited a few minutes and drove off. The car was a green Acura. Police could not find the car afterwards. The incident happened June 16.
- Police responded to Hawkins Drive for a report of youths partying on the beach. The complainant says the kids have been partying on the beach, making fires and coming onto her property. Police suggested measures to curb the trespassing, such as posting signs, cameras and fencing, and suggested calling police if she saw any violations. She filed a report for informational purposes on June 17.
- A man was harassing people at Copenhagen Bakery. Police told him to stop talking to people and leave the area, which he did. The incident happened June 17.
- A woman told police papers went missing from her Laurel Avenue apartment. She said on or about 3:40 p.m. June 17, a tote bag with trac-phone instructions and a charger went missing. She said her apartment was locked and secure. There was no other damage to the inside or outside of the apartment, and no other items were disturbed or damaged. The woman filed a report for informational purposes on June 17.
- Police were called on a group on Scudder Avenue for not social distancing. Police told the group to follow the guidelines, which they agreed to do. The incident happened June 17.
- Someone went to police HQ on June 18 to hand over multiple rounds of old .22 ammunition to be destroyed.
- A dog bit a man in his right arm after the man said he tried to get a hold of a loose dog with no tags on Elwood Road. The dog bit him and then ran into the woods. Police were unable to find the dog. The man was brought to Huntington Hospital. The incident happened June 19.
- Police responded to Hawkins Drive for a report of a youth who knocked on the door at 11:30 p.m. June 18 and then ran off. The resident took a blurry picture of the youth wearing a
gray hooded sweatshirt with writing on the back. The complainant was told to call police if the situation continued. - A neighbor found a lost 2-year-old child walking by himself. The father eventually was reunited with his child. The incident happened June 19.
- A man got locked in the bathroom of Village Park on June 19. A police officer unlocked the door, freeing the man.
- A dog got loose on Main Street, but police were able to reunite the pet with its owner. The incident happened June 19.
- A group of four youths were hanging out on Fifth Avenue with a bonfire. The group agreed to lower their voices to avoid any further complaints. The incident happened June 19.
- Loud music was being played in Village Park by a group. They agreed to stop playing for the night when police were called. The incident happened 11:38 p.m. June 19.
- A black Jeep parked at Municipal Lot #2 was blocking the Northport Farmer's Market and was issued the appropriate summons on June 20. Police were unable to reach the owner.
- A car parked in the loading zone next to a handicap space at Giunta's Shopping Center was issued a summons on June 20.
- Police responded to a Laurel Avenue home for a reported sign on the front lawn that read "Drug Dealer." The sign was removed before police arrived. The incident happened June 20.
- Police responded to Laurel Avenue School for a report of an unleashed dog. A man says while he was walking his dog, he was approached by a large dog off its leash that appeared aggressive. The anonymous owner of the unleashed dog said his pet is friendly and was unaware that the dog needed to be on a leash. Police told both that dogs need to be on a leash while in the Village. The incident happened June 20.
- A man went to police HQ to report an incident between himself and a woman. The man sought advice regarding the woman, as the woman was upset with his claim that her dog barks too much. The man was upset because the woman stated, "I will take care of it." The man has cameras installed at his home and was told to report any more incidents. The incident was reported June 21.
- Police responded to Main Street for a report of a missing woman. The man who called police said he was hanging out with his friends downtown, and his girlfriend, who didn't have her phone with her, walked away from the group. When she didn't return, the man grew concerned, because she had no money, phone or car to get home. While police interviewed the man, his girlfriend called him to say she walked to the Metro Mart and would wait there for him. A friend drove the couple home. The incident happened June 21.
