Northport Police Blotter: Man Charged With DWI

The man was driving in a turning lane and crossed over into a shoulder several times, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from March 14 through March 20.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Daniel Losito, 42, of Northport, was speeding in a 2018 Land Rover westbound on Fort Salonga Road around 11:30 p.m. March 14, police said. A police officer saw Losito driving in a turning lane for approximately one-quarter of a mile while continuing on Fort Salonga Road without turning, police said. Losito then crossed over the white shoulder marking several times, police said. Police interviewed Losito, whose eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his was speech slurred, he was very unsteady on his feet, and his breath smelled of alcohol, police said. He performed poorly on several field sobriety tests, police said. Losito was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated: BAC reading, driving while intoxicated, speeding: posted zone, unsafe lane change, and no passing zone.

Incidents

  • Police euthanized a raccoon showing signs of distemper on Douglas Avenue on March 14.
  • A Seaview Avenue homeowner heard footsteps in the upstairs of his house on March 14. Police searched the home and did not find anyone, and no items in the home were stolen or moved. There were no signs of a break-in.
  • Summonses were issued to vehicles parked on the sidewalk and blocking it on Ocean Avenue on March 15.
  • A summons was issued to a 2002 Jeep parked in a no-parking zone on Scudder Avenue on March 15.
  • A van was parked in a 10-minute parking zone on Main Street for too long, so police issued a summons on March 15.
  • Two men were seen exchanging cash in several stores in Northport on March 17. Multiple store owners told police that the two men paid for inexpensive items with large bills in an attempt to argue that they did not receive the proper amount of change. The men were detained until police confirmed that none of the businesses they visited lost any funds during these exchanges.
  • Something was stolen from a vehicle on Earl Avenue on March 18.
  • A vehicle illegally parked by Chase Bank on Main Street was issued a summons on March 18.
