Northport Police Blotter: Man Charged With DWI, Speeding

The man refused a chemical test and multiple field sobriety tests after he was accused of crossing over the double-yellow lines, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Dec. 13 through Dec. 19.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Robert Mastrantonio, 56, of Northport, was driving a 2013 GMC eastbound on Fort Salonga
    Road over the solid double-yellow line around 1 a.m. Dec. 17, police said. Mastrantonio then continued driving eastbound at a high rate of speed and crossed over the double-yellow lines multiple times, police said. During a traffic stop, the officer noticed that Mastrantonio's breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and sluggish, and when exiting the vehicle, he was very unsteady on his feet, and he was swaying and stumbled, police said. Mastrantonio took the horizontal gaze nystagmus test, which he performed poorly on, and then refused to continue any of the standardized field sobriety tests, police said. Mastrantonio was arrested and refused to take a chemical test at police headquarters, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, two valid licenses from separate jurisdictions, speeding: posted zone, and unsafe lane change.

Incidents

  • A summons was issued to the driver of a vehicle that parked in a no-parking zone at Little Sprouts By the Sea on Scudder Avenue on Dec. 13.
  • A man tried to enter through the side door of Northport Fish & Lobster on Dec. 14 despite him being banned from the store.
  • A woman reported potential identity theft to police on Dec. 14. She said she received two letters in the mail; one from Pen Federal Credit Union advising the woman of a loan being declined and another from Key Bank, advising her that a checking account has been created. The woman also said that she did see a credit inquiry from Main Financial regarding an additional loan decline. The woman states she did not apply for any loans nor has she tried to open any checking accounts. The woman had not suffered any financial loss and had already reached out to the major credit bureaus to monitor her accounts.
  • An outdoor light timer went missing from a Main Street business, and a report was filed on Dec. 15.
  • A person went to police headquarters to dispose of a sunlight.
  • Northport Liquor & Wine reported a theft on Dec. 16 after someone used a fraudulent Apple pay.
  • A woman reported on Dec. 18 that her vehicle was egged.
  • A theft was reported by CVS Pharmacy on Fort Salonga Road on Dec. 18.
  • A man was reportedly arguing with other customers of The Wine Cellar On Main on Dec. 19. Police found the man "belligerently intoxicated and uncooperative," police said. The staff of the wine bar told police they just wanted the man to leave. The man left to go home.
  • A group of people was yelling on Laurel Avenue at 2:44 a.m. Dec. 19. Police asked the group to leave, to which it agreed.
