Northport Police Blotter: Man Drove Wrong Way

The man also had an SNR .357 pellet pistol in his pocket, police say. ALSO: A woman reported possible bank fraud.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Jan. 10 through Jan. 16.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Claudy Fleury Jr., 25, of Wheatley Heights, was driving a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee around 3:30 p.m. Jan. 16 when a police officer saw him steadily hitting his brakes and releasing them, and then abruptly pull to the side of the road and exit and walk toward the officer, police said. Fleury Jr. told the officer he was looking for a service station and then abruptly got back into his vehicle and drove off, police said. The officer watched as Fleury Jr. drove over the double-yellow line and began going the wrong way, police said. Police determined the Jeep was reported stolen in Islip Terrace, police said. Police stopped Fleury Jr., who had an SNR .357 pellet pistol in his left side jacket pocket, police said. Fleury Jr. was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, third-degree criminal mischief, unsafe lane change, and fail to keep right.

Incidents

  • A man reported suspicious text messages his wife received on Jan. 8 of the music artist Eminem throwing what appeared to be a fake hamster. A follow-up photo of Eminem was sent when he and his wife replied. Police said nothing appears to be criminal in nature from the messages. The man has since blocked the phone number.
  • A man on Jan. 10 reported that a Queens business misused his debit card. The man said he gave his fiancee his debit card to pay a bill at the store Aaron's in Ozone Park. The man said Aaron's set the card up for autopay instead of a one-time payment, and they recently billed the card again for approximately $500 without his approval. The man said Aaron's required a police report in order to be able to refund the money. Northport police said the man has to contact the New York Police Department for further help.
  • A man was using a tightrope suspended between two trees at Village Park on Jan. 11. Police said it was unauthorized use of village property, and that the tightrope needed to be removed. The man was warned and admonished, and he left the area.
  • A summons was issued to a car parked in a school drop-off zone on Jan. 13. The summons was issued at 8:43 a.m.
  • An Ocean Avenue woman reported her back windshield was shattered and had a hole in it when she went outside on Jan. 14. No other part of the vehicle was damaged. Police said the damage is consistent with rocks being kicked up from the roadway, in which there
    were numerous rocks on the ground from washout around the vehicle.
  • A woman on Jan. 14 reported a repair was done on her RV that she was not satisfied with at Hicksville Spring & Brake. An employee said the business never made any repairs on the RV and that he recommended another shop where the work could be completed. The woman was irate with the business, police said, but she left without any further incident.
  • A woman on Jan. 15 reported possible bank account fraud. She told police she tried to withdraw funds from her Chase bank account only to be told she would be overdrawing on her account. She told police her phone was stolen the day before and that she filed a report with Suffolk police. The bank discovered that the funds in her account were being transferred out of her bank via her Venmo account by an unknown party. The funds in the amount of approximately $14,000 were in the process of being withdrawn, but Chase was in the process of retrieving them. Police told the woman she should have all her bank account numbers changed and get new credit card numbers. She was advised to call police again if her funds were unable to be retrieved.
  • A petty larceny was reported by Rite Aid on Fort Salonga Road on Jan. 15.
  • Police helped a driver who ran out of gas get to Metro Gas Station for fuel on Jan. 16.
