Northport Police Blotter: Man Mistakes Woman's Car For Uber Ride

ALSO: A woman nearly gets banned from CVS, a man's computer might have been hacked, and a dead raccoon was found, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from March 6 through March 12.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A dead raccoon was found on Main Street near the Hartt Insurance Agency on March 6. The animal was disposed of.
  • A woman flagged police down on Main Street at 7:30 p.m. March 6 and told the officer while she was parked and waiting for her daughter, a man tried entering the back passenger door of her vehicle. Police interviewed the man, who was intoxicated and thought the woman's vehicle was an Uber. The man was admonished by the police for his behavior and was eventually picked up by an actual Uber.
  • A Waterside Avenue resident and a landscaper were arguing on March 7. A landscaping crew working on a neighboring yard blew leaves onto and in front of the man's property. The man told police that the landscaper agreed to clean up the mess.
  • A woman was bit by a dog on Clairmont Street on March 8. She said she was giving the dog a treat when it bit her left hand. The woman, who suffered a minor puncture wound, was brought to Huntington Hospital by Northport Rescue.
  • An employee and customer got into an argument at CVS Pharmacy on Fort Salonga Road on March 8. The employee told police that when she asked a woman if she needed assistance, she became "very irate and loud." The woman left the store before police got there. Police found her down the road and asked her about the incident. She was told that further incidents could result in her getting banned from the CVS.
  • A motor vehicle was damaged by a passing vehicle on Bayview Avenue on March 8.
  • A man went to police headquarters to report unusual activity on his computer on March 8. The man believes someone from Russia/Moscow hacked into his computer and has attempted to take control of his computer. The man has not had any monetary losses and asked police to document the incident. The man was advised to bring his computer to a reputable dealer and have his computer checked.
  • A Fransal Court resident on March 9 told police of a recurring sewer issue. He said because of an ongoing sewer issue down the block, he's unable to drain water from his toilet or showers. The Village Sewer Department has been able to fix the issue in the past. A voicemail was left with the department.
  • A traffic light was not working on Fort Salonga Road on March 11. Northport police remained at the road until Suffolk police arrived.
  • An injured swan was reported at Village Park on March 12. The swan walked off toward the water by the time police arrived. Messages were left with several animal rescue organizations.
