Northport Police Blotter: Man Punches Person In Face, Flees

He was arrested shortly after, police say. ALSO: A person leaves their dog in a cold car while visiting the theater.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent arrests and incidents from the Northport Village area, from Nov. 25 through Dec. 1.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

Arrests

  • Nicholas Schopp, 25, of East Northport, was arrested for possessing marijuana, police said. He was charged with second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana on Nov. 28 and issued an appearance ticket.
  • Timothy Brockwell, 19, of Northport, was seen by an officer punching a person in the face and then fleeing northbound on Laurel Avenue at 3:42 a.m. Nov. 28, police said. He was stopped in the parking lot of the Laurel Avenue School, police said. Brockwell was charged with second-degree harassment: physical contact and disorderly conduct.
  • Douglas VanWickler, 59, of Northport, was arrested and charged with third-degree menacing and second-degree harassment: physical contact on Nov. 28, police said.

Incidents

  • A Northport Village employee accidentally scratched a vehicle with the hose from a vacuum truck during a street cleanup on Church Street. The incident happened Nov. 27.
  • A man got into a physical dispute with someone at Napper Tandy's Irish Pub. The man, who called police, said he wasn't sure if it was the listed subject who he got into an altercation with and was confused on what happened. The man refused medical attention and said he'd follow up on whether he wants to file a report. The incident happened Nov. 28.
  • A vehicle drove into a stone wall on Earl Avenue, and police were able to free it from the wall. The incident happened Nov. 28.
  • Multiple trees were carved inside Northport Village Park, which was reported Nov. 29.
  • A dog was left inside a car at John W. Engeman Theater. An officer got a key for the car from theater staff and turned the heat on until the owner came back outside. The owner was warned and admonished about leaving their pet inside a cold car unattended. The incident happened Nov. 29 around 5:15 p.m. and was resolved at 6 p.m.
  • A white van was slowly driving around Mar-Kan Drive, but police couldn't find the van. The incident happened Nov. 29.
  • Police responded to Burt Avenue for a possible Internet scam on Nov. 30.
