Northport Police Blotter: Man Reports $700 In Fraudulent Charges
The charges were made on an Uber app in multiple different states, police say. ALSO: A raccoon made its way into the post office's bathroom.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from May 4 through May 10.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- Police responded to Seaview Terrace for a report of an opened backdoor on an abandoned house with potential squatters. Officers searched the home but found no evidence of anyone inside. The homeowner was contacted and told the door was open and would be secured shut, but she'd need to find a more permanent means of securing the home while it's unoccupied. The owner said she's in the process of selling the house. The incident happened May 4.
- Police responded to a Fifth Avenue home after a woman said a man was not allowing her inside the house. The man allowed the woman in, and police told him he'd need to follow eviction procedures to get the woman to move out of the house. The incident happened May 5.
- Police responded to Rite Aid on Fort Salonga Road for a reported medical alert activation. The man told rescue personnel he was fine and just wanted a ride home. An officer explained to the man his medical alert device is not for that purpose. He then walked off. The incident happened around noon May 6.
- Police responded to Main Street for a report of a man overdosing. Officers had to force entry through a locked hallway door. They found the man unresponsive with agonal breathing. A dose of Narcan was administered by police, and the man eventually regained consciousness
and was brought to Huntington Hospital by Northport Rescue. The incident happened May 6. - Police responded to James Street around 8 p.m. May 7 for a report of a large group of kids not social distancing. An officer spoke with the kids, who agreed to leave the area.
- A raccoon got into the bathroom of the Northport Post Office; police were called around 6:30 a.m. May 8. Officers safely removed the raccoon from the building and released it into the woods.
- A man visited police headquarters to say that he didn't receive a refund for a canceled soccer tournament. The man said he sent a check to the company for $1,000. He asked for a refund after the tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic but said the company wasn't willing to heed his request. The man wanted the incident to be documented for informational purposes as he pursues the matter. He made the report May 8.
- A tree went down on the power lines of McKinney Avenue. PSEG LI was notified by Northport police early May 9.
- A woman said kids on scooters were jumping off the porch at Lewis Oliver Farm Sanctuary. They were gone by the time police arrived. The woman said she wanted the incident documented. This happened May 9.
- Two cars were driving erratically and in circles in the parking lot of Scudder Park at 2:30 p.m. May 9. Officers found and identified the drivers. Three summonses were issued to one of the drivers for driving with a suspended license as well as a suspended registration.
- A woman found a lost wallet and turned it into police headquarters on May 9. The wallet's owner was called in to retrieve her wallet.
- Police responded to Scudder Avenue for a report of feet sticking out of the bushes. An officer found an intoxicated man lying on the ground. Northport Rescue brought him to Huntington Hospital on May 9.
- A man went into headquarters to report multiple transactions on his debit card totaling $700. He said the transactions were made from an Uber Cash app in multiple different states. He called Uber and his bank in an attempt to stop the transactions. The man did not suffer a financial loss but requested a police report for his bank. The incident was reported May 10.
- Police responded to Scudder Park for a report of a car erratically driving in circles in the parking lot around 11:15 p.m. May 10. Police found the driver and issued a summons.
