Northport Police Blotter: Man Resists Arrest

He was driving with a suspended license, and pleaded the Fifth when police asked him for ID: Northport PD.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent arrests and incidents from the Northport Village area, from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Robert Cannon, 53, of Northport, was arrested on a Northport Village arrest warrant, police said. He was charged with failure to appear on Oct. 3.
  • Yary Molina-Mejia, 33, of East Northport, drove on Fort Salonga Road with a revoked license and didn't use his interlock device, police said. He was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle: refused chemical test, speeding: posted zone, installation and operation of ignition interlock D and operate motor vehicle by unlicensed driver on Oct. 6.
  • Christopher Macartney, 40, of East Northport, was driving on Main Street when officers stopped him for speeding and having a brake light out around 2 p.m. on Oct. 6, police said. When an officer asked Macartney for ID, he pleaded the Fifth, police said. He was told it was a crime to not show ID when pulled over, and still didn't show any form of ID, police said. When the officers tried to arrest Macartney, he refused to put his hands behind his back and forcefully resisted getting cuffed, police said. Police say the officers used the least amount of force necessary to cuff Macartney, which entailed the arresting officer using physical force while the other officer warned him with a taser. It turned out Macartney's license was suspended, police said. He was charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, operate motor vehicle by unlicensed driver, speeding: posted zone, equipment: vehicle manufactured after 1952/two stop lamps, and no/expired inspection certificate.

Incidents

  • Police responded to Bayview Avenue for a report of an abandoned 2011 Ford. They found the car bearing NY registration was parked and unoccupied at the curb with expired registration as of July 24, 2019 and an expired inspection sticker as of June 30, 2019. Several tickets were given, including one for an abandoned vehicle. The car was brought to Laurel Service Center, the plates were removed and a voicemail was sent to the registered owner. The incident happened Oct. 1.
  • A man was walking along Harborview Drive in his socks and torn clothes. Police brought him home and told his family what happened. The incident happened Oct. 2.
  • A person was soliciting on Main Street, but agreed to stop and leave the area when officers arrived. The incident happened Oct. 3.
  • Police responded to Scudder Avenue to settle a dispute between two neighbors. A woman said her neighbor repeatedly knocked on her door and tried talking to her. Police told the man he should leave his neighbor alone, which he agreed to. The incident happened Oct. 4.
  • A woman was knocking on car windows, trying to talk with people, at Municipal Lot #1 at Constitution Square. Police spoke with the woman, who agreed to stop approaching the cars. The incident happened Oct. 4.
  • A woman went to police headquarters on Oct. 5 to tell them she was receiving unwanted contact from an old acquaintance.
  • An officer discussed boating, water safety and local marine ecology with 20 kids from Cub Scout Pack 42 and their parents at Crab Meadow Beach on Oct. 5.
  • A drunk man was yelling at people on Main Street. Police spoke to him, and he agreed to take an Uber and leave. The incident happened Oct. 5.
  • Police responded to Northport Harbor for a report of a dog drifting in a yellow kayak. Police found a yellow kayak being towed by a dingy to a dock with one person on board. No animals were on board. The incident happened Oct. 6.
  • A driver's license was confiscated after an officer saw them speeding on Main Street while their license was suspended. The driver was issued a ticket on Oct. 6.
