Northport Police Blotter: Man Shatters Woman's Car Window

The woman was trying to pay him back money her husband owed, police say. ALSO: Homeowner mistakenly calls police on exterminator.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent incidents from the Northport Village area, from Jan. 20 through Jan. 26.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Andrew Iamascia, 30, of Northport, was on Main Street when a woman called police on him for a reported criminal mischief, police said. Officers say the woman told them she was trying to pay Iamascia back the money her husband owed him. Iamascia refused the money and punched the driver's side car window of her 2008 Toyota Yaris, causing the window to shatter, police said. The woman estimated the damage to be $200. Iamascia was arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief: intended damages to property at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 21. He was released on his own recognizance to return to court.
  • Michael Geres, 38, of East Northport, was seen driving a 2005 Ford south on Reservoir Avenue when he swerved out of his lane and crossed the double-yellow line multiple times at 2:47 a.m. Jan. 25, police said. After stopping Geres, police say his breath reeked of alcohol. Geres was arrested and charged with DWI, aggravated DWI and unsafe lane change. Police say he consented to a breath test. Geres was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

Incidents

  • An unknown man was banging on the front door of a home on Madison Street on Jan. 21.
  • A woman was stopped by police on Fort Salonga Road for driving out of her lane on Jan. 24. An E-Justice DMV check revealed her license was suspended and she had an active bench warrant in Nassau County, police said. The woman was brought to Northport Police HQ and turned over to Nassau Police. She was issued two summonses to return to Northport Village Court.
  • Police responded to a Washington Place home for a report of a person walking around the house. The person turned out to be an exterminator from Battle A Bug hired by the caller. The incident happened Jan. 24.
  • Police responded to Main Street for a report of a man causing a dispute. The man who called told police while he and his girlfriend were walking to Sand City Brewery, an unknown man tried to start an altercation by pushing the complainant and cursing at him. The man left when the complainant called 911. Officers found the man, who told them the other man walked into him first. The incident was documented, and there was no further trouble. It happened Jan. 24.
  • Someone was driving recklessly on Sea Cove Road. The driver was found by officers, warned and admonished that any more reckless driving would result in the appropriate summons being issued. The incident happened Jan. 26.
