Northport Police Blotter: Man Stabs Man With Screwdriver

ALSO: A woman was charged w/ DWI, two more hawk attacks were reported, and a woman texted 911 about the Russia-Ukraine conflict, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Feb. 28 through March 6.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Jesse Campo, 29, of Patchogue, got into a fight with another man at 1:30 a.m. Feb. 27, police said. A woman; Campo, who is her boyfriend; the woman's mother; and the mother's boyfriend, had returned home from dinner when Campo and his girlfriend got into an argument about cheating, police said. The mother's boyfriend confronted Campo, who damaged a television, punched the man in the face and then stabbed him with a screwdriver multiple times, police said. Campo was arrested and charged with second-degree assault: intend physical injury.
  • Dianne O'Neill, 64, of Kings Park, was driving a 2022 Hyundai traveling eastbound in the shoulder out of the lane of traffic on Fort Salonga Road with no headlamps or tail lights on around 1 a.m. March 2, police said. O'Neill went back into the lane of traffic and then crossed over the solid white traffic line into the shoulder multiple times, police said. O'Neill was stopped by police, and her breath smelled of alcohol, her eyes were glassy and bloodshot, and her speech was extremely slurred and sluggish, police said. She had to use the Hyundai to steady herself when getting out of it, police said. She was extremely unsteady on her feet, swaying and stumbling when attempting to stand still and she performed poorly on several standardized field sobriety tests administered, police said. She was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI, driving while intoxicated, unsafe lane change, driving on shoulders and slopes, and equipment: lighted headlamps.
  • Jamie Correia, 28, of Northport, was arrested and charged with second-degree identity theft on March 4.

Incidents

  • A person was issued a ticket instead of an arrest in connection with stalking on Old Country Road on Feb. 28.
  • A man entered Daniel Gale Realty on Feb. 28 and aggressively accused the agents of listing his house for sale under the appropriate value. An agent said the man then took a photo of her with his cell phone before leaving the business. The agent wanted to document the incident. Police said to call if the man returned.
  • A Burr Avenue man on Feb. 28 reported his briefcase was either lost or stolen.
  • A Harborview Drive resident reported identity theft on March 1.
  • A woman on March 3 reported possible health insurance fraud. She told police she was contacted by her health insurance provider, NYS of Health, and advised that there have been numerous transportation charges billed to her account. The woman said she told her insurance company that these were fraudulent charges and she never used any transportation services for her appointments. The woman has not suffered any monetary losses, and her insurance company said it was investigating the charges.
  • A Woodbine Avenue man on March 3 reported damage to the driver's side-view mirror of his vehicle. He said he parked his car in front of his home around 3 p.m. March 2 and when he went out to the car in the morning, he noticed the mirror broken. The owner found a broken piece of plastic from a car mirror, a white, stamped Honda on the inside. He believes that was what hit his vehicle. The man did not want to file an accident report but just have the incident documented.
  • A Lindberg Court man reported multiple scam phone calls on his home phone on March 3. He said the other person was claiming to be from Amazon and requested that the man transfer money to them. The scammer was calling from a restricted number and did not provide any other information.
  • A Scudder Avenue woman on March 4 was texting 911 about the Russian/Ukraine conflict. She was told to contact the police for emergencies and not her political concerns.
  • Two Verizon boxes were found on the sidewalk of Ocean Avenue by a crossing guard on March 4. Police took the boxes back to their headquarters.
  • A summons was issued to the driver of a vehicle doing donuts in the Scudder Park parking lot on March 4.
  • A man was attacked by a hawk and suffered two punctures in the back of his head on Main Street on March 5. The man refused medical attention and wanted the incident documented. Police notified John Pistone of the United States Department of Agriculture.
  • A woman reported a hawk "swooping" down on her as she was running on Main Street on March 5. Police notified John Pistone of the United States Department of Agriculture.
  • Two drunken women were trying to leave Robke's of Northport in two separate vehicles on March 5. Police told them to take an Uber, and they did.
