Northport Police Blotter: Man Accused Of Stealing From Rite Aid

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Jan. 24 through Jan. 30.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

Arrest

• Dwayne Mills, 59, of West Hempstead, left Rite Aid in a gray Nissan Maxima with Florida plates just after a theft was reported at the store, at 395 Fort Salonga Road, around 5 p.m. Jan. 26, police said. Mills was stopped by police on Catherine Street, police said. Officers found a blue laundry-style bag with a large variety of items that were reported stolen, police said. Mills was arrested and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and two counts of petty larceny.

Incidents

• A woman reported possible credit card fraud on Jan. 24. She told police she received a message from an unknown subject claiming to be a representative of Microsoft. The person stated that her American Express account was compromised and he needed access to her computer in order to fix the situation. The woman briefly gave the man remote access to her computer before realizing it was a scam. The woman does not believe she suffered any financial loss but will monitor her accounts and finances and update police if she does suffer any loss.
• Police saw a woman in a bathrobe running around Ocean Avenue around 3 a.m. Jan. 27. Police asked her if she needed any help, and she said she was meeting her friend and did not need any help. She then went back home.
• A bag of tools fell off a gray and black pickup truck headed eastbound on Fort Salonga Road around 1 p.m. Jan. 27. The driver of the truck had a beard and a mustache. The finder attempted to wave the driver down but was unsuccessful. Police placed the tools in the temporary bin.

• A woman's side mirror was damaged during a hit-and-run incident on Scudder Avenue around 9:15 p.m. Jan. 28.
• Northport police helped Suffolk police with a possible burglary at Dunkin Donuts on Fort Salonga Road on Jan. 29.
