Northport Police Blotter: Man Tries Breaking Into Northport Home
He was "violently pounding" on the door, and when questioned, said he was trying to enter his aunt's home in Staten Island, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from June 29 through July 5.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Radames Santiago Jr., 33, of Brooklyn, violently pounded on the front door of a Norwood Avenue home while yelling around 2:30 a.m. June 30, police said. An officer who saw Santiago Jr. doing this interviewed him, and he told the officer he was trying to enter his aunt's house and believed he was in Staten Island, police said. The Northport homeowner said he and his wife were sleeping when they were startled by Santiago Jr. "pounding violently" and his attempt to enter their home by pulling and pushing on the front door, police said. The homeowner also told Santiago Jr. to leave his fenced-in property, and he refused to do so and continued pounding on the front door, police said. The homeowner filed charges and gave a statement. Santiago Jr. was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal trespass: building or property, and he was processed and released on an appearance ticket.
Incidents
- A woman told police someone attempted to claim unemployment benefits from New York state under her name and personal information. She did not incur any financial loss and wanted the incident documented for informational purposes. Police told the woman to notify her banking accounts and acquire a credit monitoring service. The incident was reported June 29.
- A security guard at Northport Library turned in a clear stone (possibly a diamond or imitation diamond) a woman found in the library parking lot and turned over. The item was placed in the temporary storage bin on June 29.
- On June 30, someone walked into headquarters to report a verbal dispute from the morning of June 26. The complainant said, while at Feed & Grain Restaurant, they and someone else were involved in a verbal dispute stemming from a previous contractor/client dispute a few years ago. The complainant says the subject stated, "I own this town," and "you're lucky to be alive." The complainant wanted the incident documented for informational purposes.
- Police responded to Waterside Avenue for a report of an injured deer on the side of the road. An officer euthanized the deer, and a message was left for the Highway Department to pick up the deer. The incident happened July 1.
- Police responded to Goldenrod Avenue for a report of a dispute. The caller said because he briefly parked his car on his neighbor's property, his neighbor came onto his property and started a verbal argument with the caller. A witness showed officers a video of the incident, showing both parties equally engaged in a verbal argument. Both were warned and admonished, and they were told to call police first if they have any issues with neighbors or parking disputes in the future. The incident happened July 2.
- Police responded to Main Street for a report of a woman yelling. When police arrived, the woman became very uncooperative and refused to answer any questions, saying, "I don't want to talk to the police, nothing happened." She then left the area with no further incident. The incident happened July 2.
- A man went to police headquarters to report a dog bite from earlier in the night on July 3. He said he was walking on the sidewalk on Main Street near the intersection of Bayview Avenue when a leashed dog jumped up and bit his hand, causing a small cut to his left hand. The owner of the dog gave the person his name and apologized. The person refused medical attention and wanted the report filed for informational purposes only.
- Police responded to Summit Avenue for a report of an oven smoking. Officers shut off the power to the oven and remained until the Northport Fire Department ventilated the house. The incident happened July 3.
- Police responded to a Cozy Lane home for a report of loud music and yelling in the area. The officers spoke with someone, who said he was having a few friends over and agreed to lower the music. The incident happened after 10 p.m. July 3.
- Police responded to Ocean Avenue for a report of a lost chain. The man said he believes he lost his 14 karat gold bracelet roughly two to three weeks ago in his house. He says he searched his entire home and surrounding property with no luck. He requested the report be taken for documentation purposes on July 4.
- Police responded to Crown Hill Road for a report of fireworks in the area. An officer saw fireworks being shot off in the street with a group of people watching. No one was found in possession or control of the fireworks at the time. Someone was warned and admonished by police. The incident happened July 4.
