Northport Police Blotter: Mom Calls Police On Son

The mother said her son had been breaking into her home all summer: Northport PD.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent arrests and incidents from the Northport Village area, from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Mary Jane Deveau, 73, of Northport, was involved in an accident and drove off, police said. She was charged with leaving the scene of an incident on Aug. 26.
  • Leo Cerruti, 69, of Oyster Bay, turned himself in on a Northport Village arrest warrant, police said. He was charged with failure to appear on Aug. 30.
  • Lauren Lavoro, 25, of Long Beach, drove on Fort Salonga Road with a license that had been suspended multiple times, police said. She was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation: three or more suspensions on Sept. 1.

Incidents

  • Police noticed a car that made an illegal left turn from Fort Salonga Road onto Church Street. When interviewing the driver, the officer found several loose prescription pills of a controlled substance. The driver managed to find the proper prescription bottle for the pills. The driver was issued a ticket and warned about possible criminal charges for not having prescription medication in its proper container before being released from the scene. The incident happened Aug. 26.
  • A knife was found in Scudder Park on Scudder Avenue and turned into police on Aug. 26.
  • Police responded to a home on Laurel Avenue for a report that someone who was there was not welcome. There were no signs of a break-in or forced entry, and the subject was eating in the kitchen. Police called the man's mother, who said her son has been breaking into the house all summer and does not live there. The man showed officers mail addressed to him at his mother's home and said he'd been living there for the past three years. The mother refused to return to her home or press charges and just wished for her son to leave, which he agreed to do. The incident happened on Aug. 27.
  • Police went to The Ritz Cafe on Woodbine Avenue where a really drunk man fell on the sidewalk in front of the business. He was so intoxicated, he needed help getting onto the fire department stretcher. He was transported to Huntington Hospital. The incident happened Aug. 29.
  • A group of kids were making noise at Constitution Square, and they agreed to leave the area and go home on Aug. 30.
  • A taxi driver went to police headquarters to report a drunk woman who refused to exit his taxi. Police escorted the woman to her home. The incident happened Aug. 31.
  • A car was blocking a Scudder Avenue driveway, so police issued a ticket on Aug. 31.
  • Someone was shooting off fireworks at Dick Court, so police disposed of the fireworks and warned and admonished the person on Sept. 1.
  • An elderly woman approached police on Main Street and told them she was lost and needed help getting home. Police brought her home and left her in the care of her husband. The incident happened Sept. 1.
