Northport Police Blotter: NY DEC Finds Hawk's Nest

The hawk has been responsible for multiple attacks on Northport residents, police say. ALSO: A woman reported a scam to police.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from March 28 through April 3.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Police warned and admonished two drivers who got into a road rage incident on Main Street on March 29.
  • The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on March 31 performed a drone flight in an effort to find a red-tailed hawk's nest belonging to a hawk that has attacked multiple people who were walking in Northport. The nest was in the back of 365 Main St. The agency is set to capture the hawk at a later date.
  • A sparking transformer was reported on Oak Street on April 1. PSEG responded to work on it.
  • A woman reported fraudulent charges to her credit card to the police after she received a letter from "Amazon" notifying her that her Amazon Prime TV App was not yet activated. The woman said that while trying to activate her Amazon Prime TV App on her cell phone, she was told to dial an unknown number for assistance. The woman said she called the number and an "Amazon representative" answered and began instructing her on how to activate her Amazon TV account. The "representative" told the woman to download the Zelle app on her phone and link her Chase Bank Amazon Prime Credit Card account. The woman said the "representative" told her to insert 19800 into the "code" box on the Zelle app and hit accept. The woman says she was told to repeat the same steps with 49600 as the code, at which point she received a warning on her phone from Chase Bank about "suspicious activity." The woman hung up on the "Amazon representative" and called Chase Bank. The woman was told that she had just unknowingly authorized a charge of $198 to her Chase Bank Amazon Prime Account and that an additional charge of $496 was pending. The woman said Chase Bank was able to cancel the charge of $496 but requested police documentation to assist in the reimbursement of the $198. The woman said she has canceled her Amazon Prime Credit card and will contact Chase Bank to say that she filed a police report.
  • Old sports equipment and paint cans were removed from a damaged shed in Steers Park and had been thrown onto a gravel driveway behind the ballfields. The Northport Highway Department was asked to get rid of the paint on April 2.
  • A drunken man left Bistro 44 without paying on April 2.
  • A car driver was warned and admonished for blasting their horn on Crestfield Place on April 3.
  • A man was taking photos of someone's house on Harbour Point Drive on April 3. A neighbor said a man in a large white pickup truck parked in the parking lot across the street, walked over and began taking pictures with a tablet of her neighbor's house. When questioned, the man told the caller that he works for a mortgage company and then left the area. The caller wanted to file the report for informational purposes.
