Northport Police Blotter: Officer Rescues Man From Hole In Ice
ALSO: Man tries to break into woman's car—with her inside, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent arrests and incidents from the Northport Village area, from Dec. 23 through Dec. 29.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Paul Schweda, 30, of Northport, caused intentional property damage, police said. He was arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief: intended damages to property, second-degree criminal contempt: disobedience and resisting arrest on Dec. 24.
- Matthew Wagner, 48, of Northport, drove on Woodbine Avenue while drunk around 2:45 a.m. Dec. 28, police said. He was arrested and charged with DWI: BAC Reading, DWI and unsafe lane change on Dec. 28.
Incidents
- An officer found a loose dog in the middle of Fort Salonga Road. The officer was able to find the dog's owner and reunite them. The incident happened Dec. 24.
- Police responded to Ocean Avenue for a report of a car crossing into the other lane. Upon arrival, the officer found the car stopped in the middle of the road with other cars lined up behind it. The driver, a senior man, said he was returning home from his son's house in Eaton's Neck. The officer contacted the son, who picked up his father and returned him home. The incident happened on Dec. 25.
- A drunk man fell into the road and hurt his head at 7 p.m. on Christmas. The man wasn't sure where he fell, and the officer didn't see any issue with the road itself. Northport Rescue brought the man to Huntington Hospital.
- Police responded to Blanchard Drive for a report of a needed ice rescue, where they saw a woman screaming that there were people out on the lake who had fallen through the ice. When the officer reached the lake, he saw a boy was out of the water, but a man remained stuck in a hole in the ice about 10 yards off the shore with several kids trying to pull him out. The officer successfully pulled the man out of the water and to the shore. The Northport Fire Department brought the younger person to Huntington Hospital, while the man refused medical attention. The incident happened around 4:20 p.m. on Dec. 26.
- While on patrol, a woman told an officer that a drunk man tried to break into her car with her inside and possibly displayed a handgun while she was at Metro Mart on Fort Salonga Road. The officer found the man with no weapons and waited until Suffolk County Police Department officers arrived. The incident happened Dec. 27.
