Northport Police Blotter: Potential Identity Theft Reported

A woman reported she received two credit cards from different banks with the same account number but a different person's name, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Oct. 4 through Oct. 10.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A group of males was asked to leave Village Dock by police around 1 a.m. Oct. 4 after they said they were hanging out.
  • Police went to School Street with the New York State Department of Finance on Oct. 5 to seize a vehicle, as the owner had failed to pay child support. The vehicle was towed to a state holding facility.
  • An Oak Street resident was draining their pool into the street on Oct. 6. Police advised the resident of Village Ordinance, and the resident agreed to stop draining the pool into the street.
  • A woman went to police headquarters on Oct. 8 to report possible identity theft. She told police that on two separate dates, Sept. 29 and Oct. 5, she received credit card activation packets in the mail from two separate banks, Chase and Citi. Inside both packets were a set of credit cards with one having her name on the card and the other with an unknown person's name. The credit card number was the same on both cards. The woman did not activate either card and instead notified both Chase and Citi about the possible fraud. The woman did not suffer any financial loss. Both Chase and Citi put a hold on the account associated with the credit card. The woman said she contacted the credit agency so she did not suffer any penalties.
  • Police responded to Ackerly Terrace for a report of illegal dumping on Oct. 9. The man's neighbor was having his home painted, and the man said the painters have thrown paint into the bushes on his property multiple times. The new homeowners of the house being painted hadn't moved in yet.
  • A large party was reported on Harbour Point Drive around 11:30 p.m. Oct. 9. A resident told police he would end the party.
