Northport Police Blotter: Rainstorm Causes Flooding Trouble

ALSO: A man found a bag of narcotics outside his home; dogs were reported missing; and a home was flooded because of the rainstorm.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from March 18 through March 24.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Dogs got loose on James Street on March 18. Police searched the area but could not find the dogs.
  • Police were called to Mariners Lane on March 18 for a report of a sick raccoon. The officer determined the raccoon was not sick and it was released into the wild.
  • A Burr Avenue resident told police on March 21 that he found a bag of possible narcotics on his property. He said he found a plastic bag with potential cocaine residue on the front lawn of his home, but he did not know how, when or by whom it was misplaced, police said. Police brought the bag to police headquarters to be destroyed.
  • A woman went to police headquarters on March 22 to document an argument between her neighbor and her landscapers. The woman said that according to her landscapers, her neighbor was angrily yelling at them for "an unknown reason," she told police. The woman said there were no threats or physical violence reported but wanted the argument documented.
  • Officers responded to Fort Salonga Road on March 22 for a report of a man acting erratic and yelling at passing cars. The man told police he was singing loudly with his headphones on and apologized for any disturbance.
  • A vehicle became disabled in a flooded roadway on Waterside Avenue on March 23. Rescue Towing responded and removed the vehicle. Locust Avenue was blocked off with cones at both Ocean and Waterside avenues. An officer escorted the driver to the Northport Train Station.

  • A James Street home became flooded on March 23. The Northport Fire Department responded and pumped out the outside basement stairwell.
  • A man fainted at Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church in Northport on March 24. Northport Rescue brought him to Huntington Hospital.
  • A plate was lost or stolen from a trailer on March 24. A larceny affidavit was completed.
