Northport Police Blotter: Scammer Asks Man For $3,000

ALSO: Someone got stuck in an elevator, someone left Rockin' Fish without paying, and police called on noisy neighbors.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from July 24 through July 30.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A Fort Salonga Road man couldn't sleep because his upstairs neighbor was making too much noise around 1:20 a.m. July 24. Police spoke with both neighbors, who both agreed to keep the noise down.
  • A woman was walking on vacant property for sale on Terry Road on July 24 after she saw the house on Zillow and wanted to check it out in person. Police warned and admonished the woman for walking on private property. She was told to schedule an appointment with a realtor if she wished to view the property.
  • Police were called to Riverhead Building Supply in Northport for an attempted phone scam on July 25. A man said he received a call from an unknown 646 number, so he ignored it. The man said he immediately received a text message from the same number requesting $3,000 for services he never received. Police told the man the call and text message was a technique used to scam random people for money and that he should ignore any further communication from the phone number. The man said he would block the number and requested the incident be documented for informational purposes.
  • A woman fell on Main Street and suffered injuries on July 25. She stepped into the street and slipped on some wet concrete and water mix that was left over from roadwork being done, she told police.
  • Two men were arguing on Village Dock on July 25. The man who called the police told officers that the other man has stolen property from his boat in the past. The man said no property was missing but he didn't feel comfortable with the other man being near his boat. Police spoke with the man, who said he was doing nothing wrong and was just relaxing by the water. The man who said he was relaxing left the dock. Police told the caller that the other man was allowed to be on the property and suggested he ignore him in the future.
  • A female left Rockin' Fish without paying on July 25.
  • A female got stuck in an elevator on Bayview Avenue on July 25. The Northport Fire Department freed her. She was not injured and declined medical attention.
  • A man knocking on doors on Center Street on July 26 was looking for a jump pack for his friend's car. They were able to find one and the car was able to get moved.
  • Parking tickets were issued to vehicles parked illegally on June Avenue on July 26.
  • A downed tree was moved to the side of Fort Salonga Road by police on July 27.
  • A Mar Kan Drive resident reported a stolen gas credit card on July 28.
  • A vehicle was fully blocking the roadway on Chestnut Circle on July 28. Police contacted the driver, who said he ran out of gas. Police helped the driver move the vehicle to the other side of the road.
  • A loud party was being thrown on Highland Avenue around 11:45 p.m. July 28. Police warned and admonished a resident to lower the music, which they agreed to do.
  • Downed trees and branches were reported throughout the village on July 29. The debris was blocking roads and hitting wires.
  • A Church Street woman said she and her husband both received letters from an attorney asking them to forward the letter to their insurance company regarding an incident from June 15, police said. The woman had no knowledge of any incidents on that date. Police took the report for informational purposes.
