Northport Police Blotter: Scammer Tries To Trick Woman

ALSO: A man claimed to be from an irrigation business and asked to inspect a system, but the company said he didn't work there, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Oct. 30 through Nov. 5.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • An Earl Avenue woman on Oct. 30 told police she was receiving calls from an unknown number stating she won a car and cash. Police told her to block the number and to not provide any personal information over the phone, which she agreed to do.
  • A brown dog got loose on Woodbine Avenue on Oct. 31, but police were unable to find it.
  • Youths were damaging PVC fences on Mar-Kan Drive on Oct. 31.
  • A broken fence was reported on Sea Cove Road on Nov. 1.
  • Property was stolen on Prospect Avenue on Nov. 2. Police did not say what was taken.
  • A man went to police headquarters on Nov. 2 because an "unknown object" was lodged in his nose, police said. Northport Rescue checked out the man, who decided to get himself to a private physician.
  • A raccoon got stuck in a dumpster on Laurel Avenue on Nov. 3. Police helped free it and return it to the woods unharmed.
  • A car crash was reported on Fort Salonga Road at 12:37 p.m. Nov. 4.
  • A summons was issued to the driver of a 2011 Hyundai that was illegally parked and blocking several vehicles.
  • Police were called to Burr Avenue on Nov. 5 for an incident that happened around 2:30 p.m. Nov. 4. The woman told police a man she did not know was claiming to be an employee for Harbor Irrigation and knocking on her door, stating he needed to inspect the system. The woman informed the man that the system was already turned off but she allowed him to inspect it anyway. After the man left, the woman contacted Harbor Irrigation to ask why they sent an employee. Harbor Irrigation stated that the company did not have any employee scheduled to go to her address for the day.
