Northport Police Blotter: Several Vehicles Rummaged Through

ALSO: A cesspool truck collided with a berm, destroying several hedges, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from July 10 through July 16.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A possibly injured bird was reported on the side of Ocean Avenue on July 10. Police re-released it into the wild since it didn't seem to have any injuries.
  • A man tripped and fell near 145 Main Street on July 12. He said he fell since the street was uneven because of roadwork and he tripped on the separation between the black top and
    cement. He said his shoulder hurt but declined an ambulance.
  • A woman was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license while on Church Street on July 12.
  • A cesspool truck collided with a berm, or a slope ledge, on the east side of Northport Village park on Bayview Avenue on July 12. Several hedges were destroyed and the ground and lawn were damaged. A manhole cover was damaged, too. The cesspool truck drove through an intersection before hitting the berm and bushes, causing the vehicle's undercarriage to get obstructed, police said. The driver told police he was at the top of Thomas Lane performing a cesspool service, finished, and left, heading west down a steep hill toward Bayview Avenue. The driver said the brakes were not sufficient enough to stop the vehicle, specifically that the air brakes had failed. Heavy Duty Wrecker was called to remove the truck. The driver was issued two summonses for inadequate brakes and improper plates.
  • A man was painting a woman's home on Northwest Drive without permission on July 13.
  • A tree went down on Norwood Avenue on July 13. Police were able to move the tree to the
    side of the road and called the Highway Department to remove it.
  • People were reportedly fighting inside Husco Gas Station on July 14.
  • Police were alerted to a stolen black 2016 Audi AA3 at Reservoir Avenue and Fort Salonga Road on July 15.
  • Someone rummaged through a vehicle on Burr Avenue on July 15. Nothing was stolen.
  • Someone rummaged through a vehicle on Chestnut Circle on July 15.
  • Someone rummaged through a vehicle on Burr Avenue overnight, a caller told police on July 15. The man said his wife's vehicle was parked and locked in the driveway at 8 p.m. July 14. When he returned to the vehicle at 9 a.m., the passenger side door was open and the content of the vehicle had been tossed around inside. The man doesn't believe anything was stolen.
  • Someone rummaged through a vehicle on Burr Avenue on July 15.
  • A woman said someone rummaged through her vehicle on Burt Avenue overnight. She reported the incident on July 15. She doesn't believe any items were stolen.
  • Someone rummaged through a vehicle on Burr Avenue on July 15.
  • A man fainted at the Northport Fire Department fairgrounds on July 15. Northport Rescue brought him to Stony Brook Hospital.
  • A dog was found on Laurel Street on July 15. Police tried to bring the dog to the North Shore Animal Hospital but it was closed. The dog was brought back to police HQ and a social media post made. Police could not reach the Town of Huntington Animal Control.
  • A vehicle got disabled in the intersection of Woodbine Avenue on July 16. Officers were able to push it off the road and into a gas station parking lot.
  • A vehicle crashed into a tree on Eatons Neck Road on July 16.
  • Officers saw several people fishing on private property next to Steers Beach on July 16. The fishers agreed to leave the area and were issued summonses for not having beach parking permit stickers on their vehicles.
