Northport Police Blotter: Urn With Ashes Washes Ashore
Officers couldn't contact the family the urn belongs to, police say. ALSO: Officers helped reunite an escaped dog with its owner.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Sept. 11 through Sept. 17.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- Northport police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Fort Salonga Road on Sept. 11. Police remained until enough Suffolk officers got there.
- A Sea Cove Road resident was asked to not drain his pool water onto the street by police on Sept. 11.
- A business employee reported a bent street sign at the intersection of Turnip Hill and Stanton streets on Sept. 12. The person told police there have been similar incidents with this sign in the last few months and that he was able to repair the sign after this most recent incident.
- A boat driver going over 5 mph within the channel was issued a summons and admonished by police, who told her to slow down on Sept. 12.
- A wooden urn containing ashes washed ashore by the Britannia Yachting Center on Sept. 13. Police tried to track down information related to the name and dates printed on the urn plaque. Police couldn't contact anyone and stored the urn in the temporary bin.
- Police helped a driver change a flat tire near Husco Gas Station on Sept. 13.
- A summons was issued to a car parked illegally on Bayview Avenue on Sept. 14.
- A raccoon that looked unwell was euthanized by police on Burr Avenue on Sept. 16.
- The driver of a truck and trailer illegally parked on Fifth Avenue was issued a summons on Sept. 16.
- A woman was walking her dog on June Avenue on Sept. 16 when her neighbor's dog got through an opening in the fence and ran toward her and her dog. She said the dog was friendly at first but did lunge toward her dog when she tried to walk away. She was able to corral the dog and escorted it back to its property. Neither the woman or her dog were injured, but she requested police contact the owner to let them know the dog escaped. Police told the owner to check the fence around the perimeter of his yard and secure any openings.
- A dog got loose on Nautilus Avenue on Sept. 17. Police found the dog and returned it to its owner.
